Welcome to my Saturday/Sunday Bread Stall in Desa Setapak Kuala Lumpur Malaysia.

This bread is called Yaw Char Kway, and is made here from scratch and deep fried before I get it. This is a traditional breakfast food in Malaysia. Some people dip it in coffee or any sauce from other food.

Here is the layout of the kitchen.

The action is never ending as some bread is being cooked, some dough is rising, and some is laid out to go into the oil next.

The dough is stretched and patted into a strip. The rounds you see are filled with sugar or bean paste, but I get the plain.

Rolling the dough thinly.

The long dough strip is being cut now.

All done cutting! This went very quickly.

Ah! This is what I came for. Each looks like it is two pieces. You do rip them apart to eat, but they are sold together for 1 RM - 25 cents usd.

The pieces are being turned now.

And here are the various finished products ready to be sold.

All of the stock is here. For some reason I do not have a shot of the second man who takes your money and sells these. The other is too busy cooking to also be in sales.

All of these shapes are stuffed with something delicious and sweet. The one with the seeds is my favorite of these. But I normally stick with the plain sticks.

On this day, the stock was depleted a bit.

You can see how light this is. But chewy! And savory without being salty. It is a bit like an English cruller in texture, but not in taste.

I wish I could describe Yaw Char Kway better, but you will just have to come here and try it yourself.

And another yummy moment.

I go to this stall each Sunday on my way to church. By the time the service starts, I am done eating and always wish I had more.

Contact Information:

This stall is open from 7 am to about noon on Saturday and Sunday only. It is in front of the Desa Setapak KK Convenience Store or somewhere nearby. There are other temporary stalls here, so the location changes slightly each time I come.

All of the varieties are the same 1 RM price. you will be very happy to spend your 25 cents usd here.
