Let's be honest: You are never going to drive or get a taxi this far out of your way to enjoy a French restaurant in Chiang Mai. However if the mood strikes you to go all this way to what is essentially a residential area then i say "kudos to you" for accomplishing that. However I gotta be honest: Baan A Din is not really all that great.

This place is rated very highly on easily corrupted review-websites such as TripAdvisor, but from years of being involved in the industry I think that perhaps this place might be on the list for why I wish TripAdvisor didn't exist.
My group ordered almost everything on the menu. We went full-spectrum. We had Lasagne, duck, steak, fish, and shellfish. I didn't eat all of this but I was there with trusted friends and everyone kind of reported the same. It tasted OK.

lasagna

duck with a side of potatoes au gratin

ribeye with side of the same
shellfish salad
I do not have a pic of the fish.
I don't think that a visit to this place is warranted for anyone that is staying in this town for a short amount of time. The food was decent, but it was really not anything special. If this was in the center of town I would be singing its praises. However, since it is well out of the city and actually quite difficult to find and near no hotels I can say with certainty that everyone out there can go ahead and give this a miss.
out of everything what we ate while we were here there was really only one thing that everyone loved and that was the lava cake with ice cream.

what's not to love about that though?
This restaurant clearly caters to the local community that lives in this distant subdistrict of Chiang Mai. The (some of which i presume to be fake) reviews that are seen on TripAdvisor would indicate that it is worth the taxi ride out there but I am here telling you as someone that was just there mid-week with a group of 8 that sampled all of the various dishes that we ordered..... that it is in-fact not worth the trip. There was nothing particularly special about any of the meals or the prices that are charged for them. I think that if someone doesn't live in this part of town (and i would imagine almost everyone doesn't) then there is no particular reason to go here.
