Skillet - Columbus, Ohio - USA

@STEEMFoodTours #60

Over the weekend I took a trip to Columbus, Ohio for @bryanjagoe's graduation from The Ohio State University. We decided to go out to breakfast Saturday morning before the ceremony. Columbus is loaded with awesome food. @bryanjagoe took us to a place called "Skillet", located in a nice little neighborhood. It reminded me of the suburbs in Denver, but the restaurant was very Brooklyn-style.

Below is a look at the drink menu of Skillet. As you can see, they had an awesome selection of craft and locally sourced drinks. I decided to order a coffee, which they gave a great description of it's origins.

After seeing that they have Bourbon Barrel Maple Cold Brew, I regret not ordering one of those. It sounds awesome. Although Skillet is only open for breakfast and lunch, they had a full bar inside of the restaurant so you can enjoy some cocktails with your brunch.

We got things started with a Griddled Cinnamon Roll. It was split and griddled; served warm with bourbon brown butter caramel and maple string icing. This was the greatest cinnamon roll I've ever had. It was like a Cinnabon, but with higher quality ingredients. @bryanjagoe, @robjagoe and I split it before diving into our meals.

My older brother (@robjagoe) ordered the Chorizo Gravy & Biscuits. I was eyeing it on the menu, but after a night of drinking, my stomach was not ready for a spicy overload. It consisted of a gravy made with spicy Mexican style chorizo from Johnstown heritage pork seasoned with cumin, oregano, ancho chile, and sherry vinegar in a peppery veloute, served over a split and griddled cat's head biscuit and scrambled Copia Farm eggs. As you can see, it's a mess of a breakfast, but I gave it a try and it was delicious. @robjagoe did a good job at clearing his plate.

My brother and I both ordered the same thing. They were called Cheese Blintzes, as seen in the photo below. These little stuffed crepes originated in Russia. They were stuffed with ricotta and a blend of cheeses, and covered with cherry preserves. They sat in a dish of creme fraiche and more cherry goodness. This was an incredibly delightful meal. It was sweet, but not overpowering and the cheese filling was delicious. I was very happy with my order, and so was @bryanjagoe.

Overall, the Skillet was a great place to stop for breakfast on the morning of @bryanjagoe's graduation. We all had a one-of-a-kind meal that filled us up until dinner time. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for a good breakfast in Columbus. The food and service were top-notch.
