Sapori e Delizie - Rome, Italy

My first taste of Pizza in Italy was at a place called Sapori e Delizie. It was rated highly on Yelp and the pictures looked good, so I decided to go and check it out. I stopped here after visiting the Trevi Fountain, on my way to the Colosseum.

The restaurant had an array of pizza options, as you can see in the photo below. All of the options sounded delicious. I would've loved to try a little of each.

I got things started with a Coca-Cola and a water. After walking around the city of Rome, I was beginning to feel dehydrated. I love how sparkling water is the norm in Italy. Since I returned home, I've been drinking much more of it. The Coca-Cola outside of the United States tastes much better due to the fact that it's made with real cane sugar instead of the highly addicting and genetically modified high-fructose corn syrup.

I decided to order the Amatriciana Pizza. It was topped with tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, bacon, pecorino cheese and black pepper. As you can see in the photo below, it was a delicious-looking pie. The thin crust was perfectly cooked to a crisp. It was a bit greasy (most likely due to the bacon), but it was scrumptious. I ate the whole thing by myself before continuing on my journey through Rome.

Overall, Sapori e Delizie was a great spot to grab a pizza pie in Rome. Much of the Roman pizza restaurants serve Roman style square slices, but Sapori e Delizie was serving up the kind of pies you'd expect to see in Italy. Where I come from I am very spoiled with good pizza, so I know a good pie when I see one. I assure you, this tasted much better than it looks.
