For someone who is very new to the Steemit platform, it can be quite difficult to initially gain attention on your blog, especially when you don't have any pre-established support to boost your progress and make your content more visible.
I went through the same when I was starting out as I saw other people making hundreds while all my posts made pretty much nothing at the time. It took me a little while to learn that the best way to grow organically on Steemit, is through quality interaction with the community.
Participation is the key word here. The more you interact with other people, the more you connect, and thus, the more potential audience you gather. Following the same idea, @steevc has come up with a brilliant initiative to help people reach that mark of minnows with the help of community effort.
You can check out all the details about this project on his blog or by clicking here. The inital idea however, organised by @pennsif, which is now adopted by @steemcommunity, aims at making 250 minnows in a month, which you can learn more about here.
Keeping all of this in mind, @steemcommunity has set up a team together to make all of this possible. There are in total, as far as I know, somewhere around 10+ people contributing in achieving this target, and you are welcome to help if you want to.
If you don't already know how ranking works on Steemit,

Redfishes are people holding 50+ SP
Minnows are people holding 500+ SP
Dolphins are people holding 5000+ SP
Orcas are people holding 50000+ SP
Whales are people holding 500000+ SP
Deadfishes are the inactive accounts or people holding below 50SP
The main aim of the #10KMinnows project is to help 10,000 redfishes such as myself, who are close to holding 500 SP, reach the mark of minnowhood by the end of the year by receiving upvotes on their posts and gaining STEEM which they will use to power up their accounts to 500 SP.
@paulag has made a great video on #Dtube where she explains the idea a little further. I suggest you all to watch the video by clicking here.
Projects like these are a great way to boost up faster and make new connections with people all over the platform which helps increase the number of middle-class members which significantly increases the platform's worth. I highly recommend you guys to participate in this project if you are interested.
