Yingde - Xianqiao Limestone cave / Tropfsteinhöhle

Yingde is a small town between Shaoguan & Canton, near Qingyuan. Well, small, it's supposed to have 1m inhabitants, but that's the Chinese system, which includes rural areas. The town itself is not remarkable at all. There is one relevant sightseeing spot, though. It's a limestone cave called Xianqiao Underground River. It's not in Yingde itself, so you probably have to take a taxi to get there. It's on tripadvisor, so you might want to check that out.

Yingde ist ein kleines Städtchen zwischen Shaoguan & Kanton, nahe Qingyuan. Naja, klein, es hat angeblich 1 Million Einwohner, aber das ist das chinesische System, welches ländliche Gebiete mitzählt. Die Stadt selber ist nicht wirklich bemerkenswert. Es gibt jedoch eine relevante Touristenattraktion: eine Tropfsteinhöhle genannt Xianqiao - Unterirdischer Fluß. Sie liegt nicht in Yingde selber, sondern etwas außerhalb, weswegen man vermutlich ein Taxi nehmen muß. Es gibt eine Seite darüber bei tripadvisor, wo man u.U. etwas mehr Infos findet.

People on tripadvisor talk about boat trips through the cave. Those were not available, when I was there (or I don't remember). We had to walk. Which takes a while, since it is not just one cave, but a number of connected ones.	Auf tripadvisor werden Bootsfahrten durch die Höhle erwähnt. Diese gab es nicht, als ich dort war (oder ich erinnere mich nicht daran). Wir mußten zu Fuß gehen. Was eine Weile dauert, da es nicht nur eine Höhle ist, sondern eine Anzahl von miteinander verbundenen.

The Chinese like to give stalactites & stalagmites flowery names, in the above case it's "Jade Flower Bud in Precious Place". They also like colourful lights. Hence pretty much all the caves are lit in various colours.	Die Chinesen lieben es, Stalaktiten & Stalagmiten blumige Namen zu geben, im obigen Fall "Jadeblumenknospe an kostbarem Orte". Sie lieben auch bunte Lichter. Daher sind so ziemlich alle Höhlen in diversen Farben erleuchtet.

As you also may notice there are actually quite a number of people down there. The cave may not be very famous, but at least regionally it's very well known & visited a lot.	Wie man auch sieht, gibt es recht viele Besucher da unten. Die Höhle mag nicht sehr berühmt sein, aber zumindest regional ist sie sehr bekannt & reichlich besucht.

Here is another example of Chinese creativity (yep, it exists). This formation is called "The Milky Way Rushing Down":	Hier ist ein weiteres Beispiel chinesischer Kreativität (jau, die existiert). Diese Formation wird "Die herunterstürzende Milchstraße" genannt:

& there is life down there! Because there is quite a lot of light (well, for caves, at least), some plants have made their home down there:	& es gibt Leben, dort unten! Da alles ziemlich gut beleuchtet ist (nunja, für Höhlen), fühlen sich einige Pflanzen heimisch:

A lot of the traditional appeal of this cave may lie in the fact that a number of stones have a rather phallic appearance. Which in traditional religion & folklore, ie. superstition, makes visiting (& maybe touching) them rather a good omen.	Ein Großteil der traditionellen Attraktivität dieser Höhle mag darin liegen, daß viele der Tropfsteine eine recht phallische Erscheinung haben. Das macht in der traditionellen Religion & Folklore, ie. Aberglaube, einen Besuch (& Berührung) zu einem eher guten Omen.

Just like in other places between Canton & Shaoguan, the landscape is really nice, too. I really don't understand why this area is not more famous than it is.	Wie auch andernorts zwischen Kanton & Shaoguan ist die Landschaft auch sehr interessant. Ich verstehe echt nicht, warum diese Gegend nicht bekannter ist.

From Canton (Guangzhou) it's not far to Yingde. If you're into limestone caves, that's definitely a place for you to visit.
