Travel blog #3: A short visit to Mactan Shrine, Cebu (Philippines)

Hello Steemit friends! For this travel blog, I'm going to share with you my short visit to Mactan Shrine. I cannot over-stress the importance of this place and the ones involved in its history. The shrine is a very important landmark as it is the site of theBattle of Mactan. The weather was cloudy when we visited the shrine. But despite the cloudy atmosphere, it was hot and humid (well, as expected of a typical place near the sea during mid-day hours).

The centerpiece of the shrine is no other than the statue of Lapu-Lapu.

And there is the Magellan monument which was erected in memory of Ferdinand Magellan.

After visiting the shrine's main attractions, me and my companions went to the shore. It was low tide so we were able to walk a huge area of the shore, where they set-up these colorful boats. I can just imagine how they would look like during high tide. Bet it would be a cool sight!

I also found these little crabs hiding in their pits, with each opening sealed by their colorful claws.

Though some people don't like to hang out in mangrove areas since they are muddy and smelly (mangrove roots trap sediments - that's why they are muddy), I'm glad to see mangroves along the shore! They have very important role in the ecosystem, especially in nutrient cycling. They also provide shelter for various species, so they really have a huge impact in biodiversity conservation.

After strolling in the shore we went to check out some of the shops.

And just before we leave a huge group of fellow tourists arrived. Enjoy y'all!
