Hanoi Attractions: #16 The Vietnam Women’s Museum

This amazing museum was founded in 1995 and was modernised between 2006 and 2010. It tells the complete story of the place that women have created for themselves in Vietnamese society and of course culture. All of the 1000 Exhibits are explained in both English French. It houses a superb collection of the famous propaganda posters. There are also costumes, and ethnic tribal basketware from Vietnam’s fascinating minority groups. I think that this really is an unmissable attraction for any visitor to Hanoi.

The excellent Vietnam Women's Museum

The Museum is excellent. The mission statement of the museum states that it is "to enhance public knowledge and understanding of history and cultural heritage of Vietnamese women... thus contributing to promoting gender equality.”

Admission is just VND 30,000 and for a further VND30,000 you can get an informative audio guide. This means a total costs of just $2.50. A cautionary note. The numbers for the audio guide are really easy to miss as they are very small.

Wonderful paintings on the ground floor

The museum is spread over 5 floors and there is an elevator. Floor 1 is really just the ticket office and shop. Floor is women in the family, 3 is women in history, 4 is for women’s fashion and the 5 is dedicated to contemporary art.
