West Japan Travel Tips #2 - Expenses |

This post is about my expenses in Osaka during the 9-day trip. Hope this could be a reference for those who are going to visit Japan.

Flights

I booked the direct round-trip flight ticket ✈️Singapore - Osaka✈️ 3 months in advance which cost 480 Singapore dollars for one person. The airline was Scoot and the flying duration was about 6 hours.

Visa

Since I am holding China passport, I need to apply for a Visa. I got my Visa granted at Embassy of Japan in Singapore. It took only 4 to 5 working days and cost 35 Singapore dollars. However, China passport gave me a chance to collect many visas of other countries which I enjoy a lot.

Accommodation

We tried staying at 3 different places during this 10D9N trip. Because of Chinese New Year, the accommodation was harder to book than usual and the price was higher with it.

  • On the first day of arrival in Osaka, we stayed at a hotel near Tennoji Station which cost around 170 Singapore dollars one night for 2 persons.

  • On the following 6 days, I booked a homestay on AsiaYo for 5 persons which cost total 710 Singapore dollars.

  • On the last 2 days, we stayed at another Airbnb homestay which cost 247 Singapore dollars for 2 nights and 2 persons.

In conclusion, I spent 420 Singapore dollars for 9 nights on accommodation. I would highly recommend staying in homestay rather than a hotel.

Food

Surprisingly our expenses on food were the least. Because we always felt like shopping from a nearby supermarket for dinner and breakfast after every day's tour. Supermarket always has everything you need, such as udon, soba, don, sashimi, sushi, barbeque, grilled fish, fried chicken and so on. They also have discount prices after 3 pm every day. More importantly, the taste is comparable to those in the restaurant. We bought the food back and used the microwave to heat up. A lovely dinner is so easy and satisfying! The average cost for each person is only about 6 Singapore dollars.

Of course, we spent our daytime looking around. For lunch, we had set meals or ramen which was 10 to 15 Singapore dollars per set normally.

Nevertheless, in CBD or tourist attraction, it is more expensive. Once we had dinner in a Chinese restaurant in Shinsaibashi. Each of us ordered same dumpling sets (10 dumplings exactly) and it cost about 25 Singapore dollars per person.

We had tried a Shabu Shabu there as well and the individual set is about 40 Singapore dollars.

There is a well-known crab restaurant, Kani Doraku. We went there for lunch and the lunch set is cheaper than dinner that cost about 50 Singapore dollars per person. It is better to reserve first or you have to wait. But walking in isn't that bad because you can hang around first.

Transportation

Relatively speaking, the transportation fee is higher. Please refer to my previous post.

Shopping

Japan is famous for its drugstore while I didn't buy much. I bought a few facial masks and cosmetics which cost 100 Singapore dollars.

Stationary and drawing tools have exquisite workmanship and are durable. It is worth to buy.

For ladies, Umeda is a one-stop shopping place. There are 6 shopping malls where you can see a wide variety of clothing and accessories. I bought a few accessories costing about 50 Singapore dollars. Perhaps I was not intended to shopping and the time was limited, so I didn't spend much time on shopping.

Uniqlo, as a local flagship store, is very popular worldwide and on my must-go list. Finally, I bought some clothing there. Compared with Uniqlo Singapore, it was slightly cheaper.

Summary

Expenses really depend on individuals. For myself, I would like to spend more time walking around and trying different dishes instead of shopping.

  • 大阪阿倍野特拉斯蒂酒店,170新币一晚两人;
  • AsioYo预订的5人民宿,6晚花费710新币,所以是118新币一晚;
