Sombor is a town in the northwestern part of Serbia, in Vojvodina, or in the western part of Backa.
I wanted to show you some of the most famous buildings in this city, starting from the churches, to the new town house, which left a special impression on me.
The main street leading to this building is King Peter Street, which also represents the central part of this city.
However, regardless of all these beautiful scenes, the interior of the city house left me with a special impression. I think that this is precisely because of one of the most significant paintings in this area, the image "The Battle of Senta". This painting is done by Ferenzc Eisenhut from 1898. The painting is painted with oil on a canvas, measuring 700x400 cm. I think this is just one of the reasons why I especially liked it, because I've never seen such a big picture. I can not describe my happiness when I saw that masterpiece.
What is very interesting is the theme of the picture. The picture is comprised of soldiers who fight each other. The diagonal midline of the painting is a path by which the painter separates soldiers in the upper part of the image and the ordinary people in the lower part of the painting. The two main characters are just two masters of horses, where the key figure is the Austrian master on a white horse, who won the battle, while the black horse shows defeated Turkish grazing.
Also, what is very interesting is that the painter painted his self-portrait in this picture, to the left of the Austrian Emperor, which symbolizes his participation in this battle.
Also, the frame of the picture represents an artwork, since it is gilded and contains the flags of both armies, as well as the used weapons in this battle.
That would be a short story about this beautiful work, I hope that you like my story. :)
These are some photos of that special buildings and some details...
And this is the whole picture and parts of it..
And finally, this is the model of the city of Sombor.
