Let's travel together #109 - TransBucegi (Romania)

TransBucegi is not just a simple road through the mountains but also a place that takes you to some of the highest peaks from Romania and to various touristic attractions prefered by visitors from all over the world, which are going to leave you speechless as soon as you discover them OR rediscover yourself.

TransBucegi also known as Drumul Babelor (EN: The Road To The Old Dames), represents one of the most scenic drives to some of the greatest mountains from Romania.
TransBucegi is competing against the other Transylvanian roads through the heart of the mountains - Transrarău, Transfăgărășan and Transalpina, some of them being very known even in the greatest tops from the world.
TransBucegi is not less beautiful than these I mentioned before but its main minus is that it's too short.
The spectacular road it measures a length of 20km and it makes the connection between Sinaia and Târgoviște, bringing you to a height of 1925m.

The investment work for this road started in 2010 and there was invested a total amount of over 10 million EUR so far.
Even though many years passed since it started, when I got to visit it in the summer of 2018 the road wasn't finished yet (17/20km paved), but there were still a lot of people taking advantage of the beautiful landscape through the mountains to get closer to some of the various touristic attractions which are nearby.
The road is mostly prefered by bikers but the car drivers are neither stepping back from admiring the nature unleashed on some of the greatest altitudes from Romania.

As soon as the road is finished, there is another one in the plan - called Transcarpatica which is going to be the main opponent to Transfăgărășan, with a total length of 60km and an amount of over 50 million EUR to be invested. This one is going to be on the western side of TransBucegi making the connection between Moroeni -> Zănoaga -> Bolboci -> Padina -> Dudele -> Moeciu de Sus -> Moeciu de Jos.

Being a mountain road, its width is quite small at times and that's why is not recommended to be traversed at a high speed, especially that there are lots of curves and the visibility can be pretty poor due to the fog.
Bucegi Mountains are not just some of the most visited mountains from Romania, but also one of the places which is being home to lots of spectacular touristic attractions, more or less known by people but which are definitely going to leave you speechless as soon as you discover the melodious springs, stunning views, natural sculptures into the stones, crystalline lakes, the canyons and bumpy cliffs, and many more.
TransBucegi is being mostly prefered by people as it is able to take you to Bucegi Mountains Plateau where you will discover Babele and Sfinxul (EN: The Old Dames and the Sphinx) which are two natural rock formations with lots of interesting stories and power over the human's mind.

TransBucegi begins in Sinaia, on DN71 and it ends on Piatra Arsa Chalet (EN: The Burned Stone Chalet), on DJ 713.
These are just two of the main attractions from the scenic road, but the surprises are not ending here as the possibilities of visiting more things are various, starting with Peleș Castle from Sinaia, Padina, the monument dedicated to the heroes who died in The World War I - Caraiman Cross, Omu Peak (‎2.514m) & Costila Peak (2.490m), Lăptici Peat Bog - a mysterious swamp, Zănoaga Gorges, Scropoasa Lake, Orzei Gorges, Dichiu Chalet, Ialomița Monastery - a church inside the cave, Bolboci Lake, and many more.

Some of these places have already been presented on my blog and the others are going to make the subject to some of my future articles on here. :)
