BIG 4 SANDSTONE POINT HOLIDAY RESORT.
We were planning on spending a quiet New Years Eve at home. But our son and daughter in law had other ideas for John and myself. They had decided to shut shop early (they own a caravan business) to see if they could book in at a Caravan Park for the night. It's always a busy time of the year for them and they deserved to chill out, knowing that New Years Day was a holiday.
Naturally, it was not easy finding any holiday parks with a vacancy at such short notice, but thankfully one became available after a cancellation, not far from home.
The Big 4 Holiday Park at Sandstone Point in Queensland had opened a month earlier and this one offered first class facilities for family entertainment and relaxation.

We were warmly greeted by our grandson Dusty.

The Big 4 Holiday Park brand is a major business which operates throughout Australia and their Sandstone Point Holiday Park has already smashed previous records for reservations for both opening week and opening month.
And after spending a few hours there on the last day of 2018 I could well understand why. This is the entrance to the park.

The first activity of the afternoon was to watch Dusty and his sister Charli, play a game of outdoor chess.

Thankfully by the time John and I arrived at the park the hot sun was receding and we enjoyed our free entertainment in the shade. Charli won, but only just.

We then gravitated to the pool and I was amazed at how big it was. 500 square meters of sparkling blue water encircled by palm trees looked wonderfully inviting. Plenty of comfortable lounges were placed around the perimeter of the pool to use in between swimming.

As night closed in, I noticed circled of golden lights winding their way up the branches of the palm trees. They looked so pretty.

The bar area looked very empty but I assume that was because most people had catered very well for their own New Year's Eve celebrations.

One of this park’s major draw cards for families is their fabulous water-play park which was imported from Turkey. It consists of six water slides, water guns, a rope course and a 800 litre tipping bucket at its highest point.

The light was fading as we walked around the park checking out all the amazing facilities. There was no shortage of spacious, undercover BBQ areas available.

A few of the villas are visible at the end of this outdoor dining area. The holiday park has a variety of villas on offer. 1, 2 and 3 bedroom units, luxury and studio villas plus family or luxury safari tents on either powered or non powered sites.

Night had fallen. We'd enjoyed a tasty BBQ dinner with the family and the count down to the 9pm fireworks at the hotel grounds next door had begun. The first lot of fireworks were designed for younger children who would not make it to the mid-night ones.
Charli loves making bracelets, anklets, ear-rings necklaces and adornments wherever they can be worn, out of florescent glow sticks. Her Nanna, (me) received an equal amount of glowing accessories but unfortunately I couldn't carry any balloons as I was operating my trusty camera most of the night.

The Sandstone Hotel is situated on the picturesque shores of the Pumicestone Passage which is close to the very popular Bribie Island. Mid-way between Brisbane city and the sunshine coast, sits the Sandstone Point Hotel which is surrounded by seven hectares of waterfront land. Their outdoor entertainment area centered around a stage parallel to the water, caters for 20,000 people at any one time.
Apart from their unobstructed water front features, the Sandstone Point Hotel boasts a stylish bistro, classy restaurants and modern function facilities. And the Big 4 Holiday Park is located on the adjacent property.

We all walked the short distance from the holiday park to the hotel entertainment area and as we got closer, so too did the sound of hundreds of excited people gathered in expectation of a fun night ahead.
We were met by dazzling lights, sparkling reflections on the water from beneath the the Bribie Island Bridge, the chatter of celebratory crowds as they jostled to secure ideal vantage points with which to enjoy the much anticipated fireworks display.
Live music punched the air with vibrant accents and the darkness disappeared under a spectacular light show. And it was nearly time to say "Good-Bye 2018" and welcome 2019 with open arms.
