Ups, Downs, and Settlers of Catan

Well, it's been four days since I last posted, but that was somewhat by accident. You see, I tried to post yesterday, but there was a little faux pas.

I've been testing @steempress on the Garden Gnome Publications website. The latest version supposedly supports multi-author. I wanted to test it so that I could invite other Steemians to post to the Garden Gnome Publications blog and have their posts publish to their own Steemit blogs. Unfortunately, when I tested this on my own account, the post ended up publishing on the @gardengnomepubs account. Major fail!

Ah! But the bright side is that post received an @curie vote and has earned almost $18.00 in the first 24 hours. You can read it right here, if you haven't already.

What I decided to do instead is offer Steemians a way to post to GGP and still earn rewards. Their posts will publish on the Garden Gnome Publications website, but GGP will share the rewards as well as upvote their posts. The details for the submission process are here.

On Another Nate

Last week, my grandson came to stay with me. They've been without heat and he came to stay with my wife and me for a week. Being cyberschooled, it worked out great because he could work on school work while I worked on my work. But Nathen (we call him Nate), 11 years old, loves to play games. So that's how we spent our evenings.

Because Nathen's been staying with us, I haven't had much time for doing some of my favorite things--like posting to Steemit and playing @steemmonsters. Instead, I've been playing Catan with my grandson. And he's been winning.

catan
From Catan.

Nathen's a lot like I was when I was his age. Clever, witty, good-looking, and too smart for his breeches. He knows how to trade, finagle, bluff, wheel and deal, cajole, block, obfuscate, abscond, and dry up river beds with the best of them. Which is why he can win four out of five games of Catan he plays with my wife and me. And believe me, we're addicted. All three of us.

And, no, we don't let him win. He earns it. That's the best way to teach him the fine art of winning (and losing), in my opinion. No whining if you lose and no gloating if you win. Just do it, then let's play another one. I call it character building.

This is one of the best things about my life. I get to experience the ups and downs with Nate, his brother and sister, and their mom. Some day, I'll be sitting in my rocking chair watching Nate lose to his precocious offspring. And I'll be laughing.

This is Nate. At three. For Halloween.

Nate

My, he's come a long way.
