Larry Is Alive #128 August 23, 2023: I Am Alive Challenge

Hello everyone. Welcome to Wednesday the twenty third day of the month of August 2023. Gentlemen, nature remembered us today with some great showers, having left us without rains for more than a fortnight now. It was a soothing relief anyway as it helped to cool down the environment and allow Larry to have some hot coffee ☕ to fire him up for the business of the day. Once Larry silped the last drop of his super fired coffee ☕, he picked up his parcels and begins the days deliveries. But before then, Larry had a look at today in #history.

Larry begins his look at today in history from the USA. He finds out on that on this day in 1978, Kobe Bryant, whose full name is Kobe Bean Bryant, one of the NBA's top players in the early twenty-first century, was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.

From the USA, Larry moves over to the events of the WWII. He finds out that on this day in 1939, Germany and the Soviet Union signed a non-aggression treaty that divided eastern Europe between German and Soviet areas of influence.

From the events of the WWII, Larry goes over to the Ottoman empire He finds out that on this day in 1514, the Ottomans won a decisive victory over the Ṣafavids of Iran at the Battle of Chāldirān and they went on to gain control of eastern Anatolia.

From the Ottoman empire, Larry moves over to England. He finds out that on this day in 1305, Sir William Wallace was put to death in London for treason after being accused of directing the Scottish resistance movement during the early years of the protracted, but eventually victorious, campaign to liberate Scotland from English domination.

Sir William Wallace was indeed one of Scotland's greatest national heroes and the main catalyst for the country's rebellion against Edward I of England.

From London, England, Larry moves over to Algeria. He finds out that on this day in 1927, Houari Boumedienne, whose original name was Mohammed Ben Brahim Boukharouba, an army officer who later became President of Algeria in July 1965 following a coup d’etat was born in Clauzel, near Guelma, Algeria. He was President of Algeria from (1965-1978).

Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today in history from Africa. He finds out that on this day in 2011, Muammar al-Qaddafi's [also spelt Moammar Gadhafi, Muʿammar al-Qadhdhāfī, Muammar Kaddafi, Muammar Khadafy, Muammar al-Gathafi] four-decade dictatorship over Libya came to an end after rebel troops seized his compound in Tripoli. Although it was initially unclear where he was, he was found and executed two months later in the Libyan city of Surt.

Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry zooms off to begin his daily deliveries.

Let's now move over to the hunt for Larry...
