Benalmadena

Dogs are a common sight in Benalmadena. And I have never seen so many breeds of dog in one place.

I think one of the reasons there are so many dogs here could be that there are quite a few older folks living here on their own. It makes sense for them to have a dog for some companionship. Dogs are man's best friend after all.

So, because of the number of dogs around, there is always a smell of dog urine on the streets – all over – and you have to watch out for dog poo too. Most dog owners do make the effort to pick up after their dogs, but there are always those that are irresponsible. However, there’s nothing they can do about the urine and hence, there is a pervasive smell of urine in the air. The hot and dry weather did not help.

People walk their dogs mostly in the evening when it is cooler.

For those who are working, I guess, the evenings are the only time they have. So, you still see people walking their dogs after midnight.

Signs reminding owners to pick up after their dog.

When you see this sign, it means that you don't have to pick up after your dog. Maybe they welcome the fertilizer.
