I was taking my afternoon walk when I noticed that the leaves on some of the trees stuck together to formed a sort of nest. They looked like ant nests. I didn’t think it wise or proper to disturb them.
(The photograph is not very good. It was a smartphone camera plus which the sun was shining right on the screen and I couldn’t see anything. I sort of just aim and shoot, but well, I guess my aim was way off. I missed most of the pods of nest.)
However, on closer look, I saw this caterpillar. It looks very well fed. It doesn’t know it yet, but it is going to become a beautiful butterfly soon. I love butterflies, but caterpillars spook me.
Here’s one on the top right hand corner.
As I looked on, I noticed there were more, many, many more. So many that it gives me the creeps right away. They were partly camouflaged by the leaves and stems. Seeing so many of them was enough to give me goose bumps, and I made a hasty retreat. I have seen enough. The nests must have something to do with the caterpillars - I pondered as I continued with my walk.
