1UP Community Levels, User Authority & The Ten Starting Communities

Introduction

1UP is an automated hivemind curation system for communities where all votes are equal. It funnels upvotes to the highest voted posts and creates high curation rewards for trailers. The platform will use its own Smart Media Token (SMT) which will be released together with the official start of the SMT protocol by Steemit.inc on March 24th 2019. Before then the application will already be fully functional and run via a bounty incentive program.

In this post we look closer at the community level system that enables them for 1UP-votes and introduce the 10 starting communities.

Post Body

To create a system that is able to direct high upvotes to a few collectively selected posts we have to create efficient hurdles for potential abuse and allow every movement to earn a place for themselves without being overrun by them either. Also, we need to start with a few communities who will lead the field and allow us to test the system and grow organically.

User Authority

The first hurdle for a 1-account-1-vote system is to stop the massive potential abuse through multiple account ownership. Instead of creating a inhouse solution we will use the API of the brand new @userauthority that acts like an alternative reputation system based on a more hivemind formula itself. It looks very promising and allows us to search for a balance point where the entry level is as low as possible and the abuse hurdle as high as necessary.

Community Levels

Everyone can create a new community based on tags or white/blacklists for users. A new community will start on level zero and can earn experience points (XP). Every fortnight the level zero community with the highest XP will level up and become a level one community.

Each community level brings one upvote per day from the 1UP-account. All upvotes are equally high and devided by the available daily voting power. (That means that upvote strength will shrink over time while adoption and support grows.) Also, each 1UP user will be able to give one 1UP to a post per day per level of the community.

The following graphic shows the economics for 1UP communities:

A level zero community will get no upvote from the 1UP account. However, users will be able to upvote there with one 1UP per day and create daily ranking lists. Trailing will work as well which allows all communities to benefit from 1UP functionalities right from the start.

A level one community will receive one upvote from 1UP for the highest voted post of the day. A level two community will receive two upvotes and so on until level ten with ten daily upvotes as a maximum for any community. To grow slowly over time 1UP will use a steep level system with the XP points. These numbers might be adjusted over time.

Here is the initial XP ladder for the 1UP community levels:

Level 1: Highest Community Every Fortnight
Level 2: 10,000 XP
Level 3: 20,000 XP
Level 4: 40,000 XP
Level 5: 80,000 XP
Level 6: 160,000 XP
Level 7: 320,000 XP
Level 8: 640,000 XP
Level 9: 1,280,000 XP
Level 10: 2,560,000 XP

Community Experience Points

The XP points are based on the value that community gets from the 1UP users in form of 1UPs given to them as well as the amount of posts created for them in the first place. The calculation for that looks like that:

((Amount of posts x 3) + (Amount of 1UPs given x 5)) : 2 = Experience Points or XP

This gives a steadily growing number that allows to reward each community at some point with a level up that is steep and difficult on purpose for the already mentioned slow and steady grow of the system.

The Ten Starting Communities

In order to upvote with the official 1UP account right from the start of the platform we will upgrade ten communities directly to level one. That way we will be able to give ten daily upvotes (one to each) and use our full daily available voting power.

These starting communities will be using the following tags:

The internal #1UP tag will allow the community to provide feedback and ideas, open source contributions like developments, designs and analysis speficially for 1UP as well as 1UP promotions and discusssions in order to gradually become a fully decentralized application.

For DTube, DLive, DSound Utopian-io and Fundition we will try to work with and incentivize the platforms themselves but by pulling in their tags 1UP also operates independently from them. We will establish a community on Discord for each of them that organizes itself and will hopefully be populated by the many already existing communities.

The tag #promo-steem is a huge community on Steemit that promotes Steem/Steemit to people all around the world. Supporting these efforts is in the greatest interest of 1UP which is entirely based on Steem functionalities. This makes particular sense as the Steem hardfork 20 next month will open the bottle neck of account creation and allow for faster user adoption.

The #indymedia is a new tag that will allow all these amazing independent journalists out there who are heavily censored and demonitized on centralized platforms like YouTube and Facebook to find a new audience and a chance for great rewards. They are already a thriving community here on Steem and grow quickly as the mainstream strikes against them.

The #anarchy tag is another popular community here on Steemit as this movement is even reflected in the Steem functionality itself to many degrees. As 1UP is growing out of ideas discussed at Anarchapulco it only fits to bring more value and attention to these ideas which are based on voluntaryism and non-aggression principle without rulers.

The final #esoteric tag includes topics outside of mainstream believes and deal with supernatural philosophies and ancient teachings like Alchemy, Astrology, Magic, Tarot, Kabbalah, Mythologies, UFO, Plant Medicine, Alternative Healing and so on. There is a huge movement on Steemit creating amazing content like that which will find more attention through 1UP.
