Immobile Hippie Van Enhances Street Scene … More VWs in Chiang Mai, Thailand – Vehicle Photography

While strolling around Chiang Mai, I discovered a few more old VW Beetles and Hippie Vans.

One for the road, one for the side of the road

The above pair of VWs was parked on a quiet side street in Chiang Mai. The beige Beetle seems to be in fine running condition, but the red’n’white van has seen better days. It is apparently immobile, and is now parked here as a permanent part of the cityscape.

More than a car

The old Beetle, however, still shines, and apparently, it still runs, too. As the sticker says, it’s “not a car,” but something more than a car.

The owner has even updated the interior with a customized headrest. Clearly, it’s an object of affection. And given how great it looks, it’s certainly worthy of affection.

Old and immobile, but still beautiful

The headlights of this old hippie van are gone, the tires are soft, the license plate is missing, and the van itself has been captured by the vegetation. Obviously, it has not moved in years, and it probably will not move any time soon.

Yellow means slow, green means go, red means go in style

These 4 brightly colored Beetles are typical of the model. In particular, the wheel-colors that match the body-colors are distinctive.

But even the nondescript silver-colored Beetle has a fine sheen.
