This one was on our to do list, we just didn't expect to get it done so quickly.
If you caught it when I was talking about the genetics of our flock of Jacob's Sheep I mentioned that the darker horns, dark eye patches, and dark muzzle were preferable in Jacob's Sheep. Unfortunately, our first ram was not exactly breed standard.
That is a photo of @jonny-clearwater, our first ram. Not only does he lack some of the "better" qualities, he has some undesirable horn growth which he is passing on to the next generation each time he breeds. In that "genetics" post, I showed an image I created about how a "better" ram would look.
Yes, it is just a little image I created in MS Paint, but it certainly does show the difference. Interestingly enough, that picture I made looks pretty familiar now...
I think that it sort of looks like Willie, a ram that we met the other day. He's definitely a bit darker, but the horns and some other features look much better. Also, although he is so dark, maybe those genes will be able to pull our flock back where it should be. We were planning on checking out some of his sons anyway, and just happened to be there on the day that one of them could leave, which was the one that we picked out. Here is a video of when we picked him up!
EXCELLENT TIMING - HERE HE IS!
