These are the records of the adventures I'm having in my favourite game right now, No Man's Sky. It is not only a beautiful game graphically, it is also one of a kind because of the technical innovation that went into making it possible to explore a near-infinite universe, with billions of unique planets. It also falls perfectly into my favourite genre fusion of art and science. I hope you enjoy it.

🌌 Dear Diary,
The oddest thing happened today. I woke up in my ship, as usual, and wanted to get out to go check if I'd missed anything in the building I'd landed at at the end of my previous journal entry.
Only thing is, I was in the air! In the air, and bumping into the terrain.
I quickly landed again and got out, utterly perplexed, and went to check inside the building, where I found a Korvax entity! He definitely hadn't been there the day before but didn't seem surprised to see me.
I tried speaking to him but he wouldn't say much until I checked out some coordinates nearby for him. I think there's something there he wants me to bring back to him.
I decided not to pursue that particular quest yet though, since I had pressing matters which needed tending to...
For one thing, because of the strange non-death, I had nothing in my inventory. Thankfully my ship still had its contents, so I grabbed the sodium out of there and then started scouting around for any and all valuable minerals.
I had chosen a good spot but will spare you the details: After several hours, I had almost everything replenished that I'd lost.
I then made a mental list of a few priorities before setting out of my ship to scout for a good spot to set up my base computer. Very nearby, I found another building with two more Korvax entities in it! One trading technology blueprints and components, the other, not that interesting...
And also, it contained a weapons terminal with a shiny new multi-tool in it! Costing over 700 000 units... I added "Save up money" to my list of priorities, so I now had three main ones:
- Find a good spot for base computer, then find copper to refine into chromatic metal to synthesise the computer.
- Find the 7th species on this radioactive planet - to get the rewards of 350 nanites, with which I can buy technology blueprints.
- Go back to dead planet to take on the monsters again, this time better prepared, and while I'm there, find more of those shiny egg-sac pearls and other valuable things, in order to replace my current old, basic multi-tool with the flashy new one I found in the weapon's terminal.

Something else inside the building was a galactic market terminal, so building a base nearby was definitely a good idea. I sold a few of those cubic relics which I'd found while gathering materials, as well as the gold and silver I had mined from the asteroids around the ice planet, and then went outside to find a good spot to build my base.
My first instinct was to get higher up, so I started climbing the hill when my visor told me that there was an buried technology module just beneath me. I whipped out my terrain generator and yes indeed, I found some old tech and salvaged some damaged data banks... I couldn't figure out how to somehow repair and use them but my visor valued them at 50 000 credits each(!) so I held onto them.

Reaching the top of the hill, it seemed as good a spot as any so I scouted out and found a copper deposit, got it refined, and got back to finally build the base computer. Like the first time, it asked me if I wanted to claim the surrounding land, this time hitting "Confirm".

So now I'm able to build here. The computer had some building plans stored on it, and, well, I'm not sure how it works... But some time later, it said more planss had become available - a blueprint analyser, apparently... Exactly what I needed. It seems to be decrypting information and making it available to as it goes...
I didn't synthesise the analyser just yet though... I decided I wanted to try my hand at building a base for the first time instead... Which was when I remembered: the computer had played a log from a previous owner, which must of course be the entity I am supposed to be looking for! I'd forgotten all about them!
The wooden structure blueprints required quite a lot of carbon so it was some time before I was able to get the whole thing built...
It was annoying at first... The local wildlife kept on getting in the way, and I felt so unwieldy, managing to construct a roof part right next to the floor... It looks silly, but whatever... I'll leave it there as a funny reminder of these beginning times - not that I would know how to deconstruct it even if I wanted to...
After some time and sodium to keep my hazard protection up, not to mention a forced break when a storm caught me and I had to run back to my ship, I finally had a 2x2 two room with walls, a roof, and a door. Triumph!

And I'm inside here now, with a second radioactive storm raging around me.
It's completely bare, but I'm excited... I'm making progress and it's such a good feeling to have a place up that I can call home, however temporary it may end up being.
