Este estándar de jazz es bien conocido por los músicos, pero no tanto por el público en general. Puesto que tiene una estructura armónica muy sencilla, lo suelen tocar los estudiantes y en las jam sessions. El autor es el trompetista Kenny Dorham y la compuso después de participar en el Festival de Jazz de Río de Janeiro de 1961. This jazz standard is well known by musicians, but not so much by the general public. Since it has a very simple harmonic structure, it’s usually played by students and in jam sessions. The author is trumpeter Kenny Dorham and he wrote it after taking part in the 1961 Rio de Janeiro Jazz Festival. Bossa nova was all the rage at the time and even hard bop players were influenced by this musical genre. However, despite the title, the theme is not a blues nor does it necessarily have to be performed in bossa rhythm. In fact, when pianist McCoy Tyner re-recorded it 38 years later, he did so with a Latin beat.

Dorham nunca volvió a tocar este tema, pero Henderson lo mantuvo en su repertorio y lo incluyó en cuatro álbum más. Dorham never played this tune again, but Henderson kept it in his repertoire and included it on four more albums. Trumpeter Art Farmer also added it to his repertoire in the mid-1960s and was still playing it thirty years later. El tema lo tocan Henderson y Dorham al unísono a ritmo de bossa nova, y tiene una melodía atractiva. El primero en hacer su solo es Dorham, que al principio es muy fiel a la melodía, pero luego va desarrollando sus propias ideas. Le sigue Henderson con una línea melódica totalmente distinta del tema original, tocando frases con estructuras inusuales. Luego entra Tyner utilizando diferentes recursos, puesto que la sencillez del tema se presta a ello. A continuación llega Warren con un solo creativo y muy bien construido, y finalmente el grupo reexpone el tema.

The theme is played in unison by Henderson and Dorham in bossa nova rhythm, and has an attractive melody. The first to solo is Dorham, who is very faithful to the melody at first, but then develops his own ideas. Henderson follows with a totally different melodic line from the original theme, playing phrases with unusual structures. Then Tyner enters using a wide range of resources, since the simplicity of the theme lends itself to it. Next Warren comes in with a creative and very well built solo, and finally the group restates the theme.
