As vezes guardamos coisas que acreditamos que podem ser úteis. As vezes nem sabemos porque guardamos. É como um computador com milhões de arquivos, tudo dentro de centenas de pastas diferentes, arquivadas em outras tantas pastas. Foi com o que me deparei hoje. Isso me fez pensar sobre a vida e sobre quanto espaço dela está sendo tomado pelas coisas que guardamos dentro de nós. Hoje eu decidi fazer uma limpeza nos arquivos do meu computador e encontrei muita coisa que estava “jogada” por lá, coisas que eu nem lembrava. Encontrei inúmeras imagens de salas, quartos, cozinhas e lembrei que há um certo tempo nós estávamos planejando a construção da nossa casa. Foi nesse período eu acumulei tantas imagens. Tudo parecia bonito naquela ocasião. Acontece que depois de ver nossa casa pronta posso dizer que praticamente todas aquelas imagens que acumulei são lixo. Lixo porque simplesmente está ocupando espaço no computador e não serve, não se encaixam com a casa que temos. Eu só falei da bagunça que há no meu computador, mas você não faz ideia da bagunça que eu tenho fora dele. Tenho por exemplo uma enorme quantidade de parafusos na gaveta, mas o fato de tê-los ao alcance não quer dizer que poderei contar com eles quando precisar. Quem já espalhou um tanto de parafusos em uma mesa para no final descobrir que apenas um, ou talvez nenhum lhe serve, sabe bem do que estou falando. É aí você entende que tudo aquilo só tem servido para uma coisa: fazer peso. Seja deixar a gaveta pesada, seja deixar sua vida pesada. E eu sei que você carrega bem mais coisas do que minha gaveta de parafusos consegue guardar. Imagine agora as pessoas à nossa volta: cada uma tem algum poder de encher nossas gavetas. Muitas vezes com ofensas, com olhares de desdém, com surras, ou com críticas. E não importa se a pessoa faz isso intencionalmente ou sem querer. Se sentimos o peso é porque estamos carregando algo que não nos serve. Sou daqueles que acredita que é melhor ajudar do que precisar de ajuda. Mas as vezes é preciso avaliar qual o peso que cada um está jogando sobre nós. Você, por exemplo, não acha que já tem carregado peso demais? Você ao menos já se deu conta dele? Ou continua carregando, sentindo o cansaço, mas ainda não compreende de onde vem tudo isso? O problema é que você não ganha nada por carregar esse peso, ao contrário, você paga. E paga caro. Até que numa noite você tenta dormir mas não consegue. Você sente a angústia mas não entende o motivo, até seu corpo sente: seus ombros, suas costas, tem algo preso na garganta e que te faz tossir e sentir falta de ar. É o cheiro do mofo, é a poeira de tudo aquilo que está guardado. Mas porque guardar tudo isso, se não te serve? Se você imaginar um pássaro preso em uma gaiola, pode pensar que para ele o mundo se resume somente àquele pequeno espaço. Não seria maravilhoso poder soltá-lo? Não, não seria. Acontece que depois de tantos anos de cativeiro, soltá-lo seria lançá-lo à morte. Ele esqueceu que já foi livre. Mal consegue voar. Está com aquele peso sobre as próprias asas. Então, antes de pensar em quebrar a gaiola, você pode ir deixando a porta aberta aos poucos. Deixe ele ir, mas deixe voltar se for preciso. Infelizmente a prisão se tornou para ele um porto seguro. Dói, mas é uma dor que ele já conhece e nesse momento o desconhecido lhe causa uma dor ainda maior. Hoje cinco metros de voo o deixa cansado, semana que vem podem ser dez metros. Então porque não voamos? Acontece que existe uma coisa que ainda não te contei e é a parte mais difícil nisso tudo: é que alguns pássaros no caminho da liberdade começam a lamentar, pois mesmo aprisionados e impedidos de viver livremente, eles receberam migalhas durante muito tempo e agora partir lhes parece egoísmo. Alguns seguem em frente, mas há também aqueles só conseguem imaginar a dor que o seu antigo carcereiro está sentindo. Como se carregasse a culpa por querer ser livre. E então retorna para a gaiola outra vez. Mas isso não é sobre ser egoísta com o outro, é sobre ser bom com você. É saber que tem amizades que não lhe servem. Que soltar as vezes é mais importante que segurar, que deixar ir não é perder: é abrir espaço para que coisas melhores possam chegar. E como aquele pássaro, eu também não quero parecer egoísta, mas depois de pensar sobre tudo isso eu começo a acreditar que todas as vezes que damos ao outro a liberdade de jogar seu peso sobre nossas asas, estamos escolhendo a gaiola. Espero que você consiga um dia enxergar os excessos que te aprisionam. Espero também que compreenda que o peso que tenho falado desde o início é aquilo que você carrega e que não te serve. É a mágoa criada pelo medo, pela crítica do outro, pela mentira... É esse o peso que nos impede de voar. Sometimes we keep things that we think might be useful. Sometimes we don't even know why we keep it. It's like a computer with millions of files, all inside hundreds of different folders, filed in so many other folders. That's what I came across today. It made me think about life and how much of it is being taken up by the things we keep inside. Today I decided to clean up my computer files and found a lot of stuff that was "thrown" there, things I didn't even remember. I found countless images of living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens and remembered that a while ago we were planning the construction of our house. It was during this period that I accumulated so many images. Everything looked beautiful at that time. It turns out that after seeing our house ready I can say that practically all those images I accumulated are garbage. Junk because it's simply taking up space on the computer and it doesn't fit, it doesn't fit with the house we have. I only talked about the mess on my computer, but you have no idea the mess I have outside of it. For example, I have a huge amount of screws in my drawer, but just because I have them within reach doesn't mean I can count on them when I need them. Anyone who has ever scattered a lot of screws on a table to find that only one, or maybe none, fits, knows well what I'm talking about. That's when you realize that all that stuff has only served one purpose: to make weight. Whether it's making the drawer heavy, or making your life heavy. And I know that you carry a lot more things than my drawer of screws can hold. Now imagine the people around us: each one has some power to fill our drawers. Often with offenses, with looks of disdain, with beatings, or with criticism. And it doesn't matter if the person does it intentionally or unintentionally. If we feel the weight it is because we are carrying something that does not serve us. I am one of those who believes that it is better to help than to need help. But sometimes it is necessary to evaluate what weight each one is throwing on us. Don't you, for example, think that you have been carrying too much weight? Have you even realized it? Or are you still carrying it, feeling the fatigue, but still don't understand where it all comes from? The problem is that you don't get anything for carrying this weight, on the contrary, you pay. And you pay dearly. Until one night you try to sleep but you can't. You feel the anguish but you don't understand where it all comes from. You feel the anguish but you don't understand why, even your body feels it: your shoulders, your back, there is something stuck in your throat that makes you cough and feel short of breath. It is the smell of mold, it is the dust of everything that is stored. But why keep it all if it doesn't serve you? If you imagine a bird trapped in a cage, you might think that for it the world is only about that small space. Wouldn't it be wonderful to be able to let it out? No, it wouldn't. It turns out that after so many years of captivity, releasing him would be casting him to his death. He has forgotten that he was once free. He can barely fly. He's got that weight on his own wings. So before you think about breaking the cage, you can gradually leave the door open. Let him go, but let him come back if he has to. Unfortunately the prison has become for him a safe haven. It hurts, but it is a pain he already knows and at this moment the unknown causes him even greater pain. Today five meters of flight makes him tired, next week it could be ten meters. So why don't we fly? It turns out there is one thing I haven't told you yet and it's about the hardest part in all this: it's that some birds on their way to freedom start to regret it, because even imprisoned and prevented from living freely, they received crumbs for a long time and now leaving seems selfish to them. Some move on, but there are also those who can only imagine the pain their former jailer is feeling. As if carrying the guilt for wanting to be free. And then returns to the cage again. But this is not about being selfish with the other, it's about being good to you. It's about knowing that you have friendships that don't serve you. That letting go is sometimes more important than holding on, that letting go is not losing: it is making room for better things to come. And like that bird, I don't want to sound selfish either, but after thinking about all this I begin to believe that every time we give the other the freedom to throw their weight on our wings, we are choosing the cage. I hope that one day you will be able to see the excesses that imprison you. I also hope you understand that the weight I have been talking about since the beginning is what you carry and that does not serve you. It is the hurt created by fear, by criticism of others, by lies.... This is the weight that prevents us from flying.
