En esta primera edición participarán 9 de las 10 selecciones sudamericanas. Brasil, al ser país anfitrión del Mundial 2027, tiene su clasificación asegurada y no competirá. Cada equipo disputará 8 fechas entre octubre de 2025 y junio de 2026, jugando 4 partidos de local y 4 como visitante. Los dos primeros lugares clasificarán directamente al Mundial, mientras que los puestos 3 y 4 irán a repechaje intercontinental.

¿Qué pienso como seguidora del fútbol? Siento orgullo. Siento esperanza. Pero también siento que aún hay mucho por mejorar. Por un lado, me parece que el calendario, aunque histórico, se queda corto. Solo 8 partidos, sin duelos de ida y vuelta, no parecen suficientes para definir algo tan trascendental como una clasificación mundialista. Sobre todo, considerando que el Mundial será en 2027 y hay tiempo de sobra para plantear un calendario más amplio y justo.

What do I think as a soccer fan? I feel proud. I feel hopeful. But I also feel that there is still much room for improvement. On the one hand, I think that the schedule, although historic, falls short. Only eight matches, without home-and-away fixtures, do not seem sufficient to determine something as momentous as World Cup qualification. Especially considering that the World Cup will be in 2027 and there is plenty of time to come up with a more comprehensive and fair schedule.

Y, por otro lado, no puedo dejar de señalar algo que muchos preferirían callar: la deuda de Conmebol con el fútbol femenino sigue siendo profunda. Basta ver lo que fue la Eurocopa Femenina: estadios llenos, transmisiones de calidad, arbitraje a la altura, mientras que en nuestra reciente Copa América en Ecuador vimos gradas vacías, condiciones precarias y decisiones arbitrales que generaron más dudas que confianza.

En cuanto a mi selección, La Vinotinto femenina, las sensaciones que me dejó la Copa América fueron agridulces. La eliminación dolió, claro. Pero también me llenó de esperanza. Vi una selección más ordenada, con ideas claras, con unión dentro del campo. Nos faltaron los goles, es cierto, pero el trabajo está. Y siento que los goles llegarán. Esta vez, sin Brasil en el camino, el panorama cambia, aunque no debemos subestimar a nadie. El camino al primer Mundial de mayores en la historia del fútbol femenino venezolano está abierto. Solo queda recorrerlo con trabajo, cabeza fría y mucho corazón.

As for my team, La Vinotinto Femenina, my feelings about the Copa América were bittersweet. The elimination hurt, of course. But it also filled me with hope. I saw a more organized team, with clear ideas and unity on the field. We lacked goals, it's true, but the work is there. And I feel that the goals will come.
