Lugares que se quedan grabados en el alma para siempre. Esta vez le tocó el turno a Bacunayagua Abajo. Una pequeña comunidad entre montañas, río y mar que se ha ganado un espacio en mi pecho por sus colores vividos, la paz que transmite y la calidez de su gente. Todo comenzó con la idea de ir a un lugar semilejano, en las afueras de la ciudad donde abundara el silencio y la naturaleza. El año pasado en un pasadía a Puerto Escondido (otro lugar maravilloso muy cerca de este) tuve el placer de conocer a Arley. Con su alegría característica, nos dio la bienvenida y organizó varias actividades aquel día. Fue un dia fenomenal (aunque muy corto). Por eso decidí contactarlo y así concretar la idea que me venía rondando la cabeza. El me ofreció este otro lugar: Aquí empieza la historia en vivo y paso a paso de un corto pero intenso viaje a un lugar encantador. Trataré de dar los detalles lo más preciso posible para que vayan viviendo conmigo cada momento del camino. **SÍGUEME!** Debí haber recogido la mochila a través de la semana - Me repetía una y otras vez casi atormentado el jueves por la noche cuando oscureció y apenas un short y un pulover doblados sobre la cama hacian el equipaje. ¿Quién necesita tanto para ir de camping? Acaso un par de shorts y un par de camisetas no es suficiente? Son tiempos modernos, ya nadie empaca para un día. Siempre hay un poco más que se puede necesitar: una cremita para si coges mucho sol, aquellas gafas coloridas para las fotos y hasta un cargador solar para si se va la luz (algo muy común en Cuba en estos tiempos). Se hizo tarde, como es común en mi, para recogerlo todo. A penas dormí menos de un par de horas; cuando a las tres de la mañana, después de meter _"todo lo que necesitaba"_ en la mochila; mi cuerpo se rendía ante el cansancio. Era una sensación rara, ya que a la vez me sentía con mucha energía por la emoción del viaje. Logré dormir. Puse una alarma que nunca sonó para las 4:30. Por suerte me desperté unos pocos minutos después sobresaltado porque pensé que me había cogido tarde. Respiré profundo. Como quien trata de echar el sueño para otro lado mientras mi cuerpo se levanta casi inerte hacia la aventura. Y si que lo era, una aventura en su totalidad. La más emocionante. Me hice un café para avivarme. Me lo fui tomando de a poco mientras remataba los últimos detalles de mi bolso explorador. Incluso me lo lleve hasta la ducha mañanera para asegurar que cada sorbo fuera el combustible de este viaje de 120 kilómetros (74 millas). Si hubiera sido en un carro directo, hasta allá, me hubiera tomado menos de dos horas en llegar. Pero como esa no era una opción, debía hacer una buena demostración de mis habilidades como mochilero. Creo que lo hice bastante bien. Finalmente salí de la casa, con un poco de sueño aun, sin darme cuenta de lo que me esperaba en el camino. Solo pensaba en el destino, sin saber que muchas buenas historias se hacen a través de la trayectoria. El transporte público en Cuba es muy escaso o casi nulo en algunos lugares pero el transporte privado (carros particulares, almendrones etc), están disponibles en buena cantidad a lo largo del día. **Bauta - La Lisa** ===================

Bauta - La Lisa Mi mochila exploradora

Llegando al paradero de las máquinas para La Habana en Bauta, estaba disponible una de las **_maquinas del tiempo_**. Carros que datan de 1950 más menos, con adaptaciones de motores modernos de Mercedes Benz, Toyota u otros. En menos de media hora, ya estaba cogiendo otro Almendron, como también se les llaman, hacia La Habana. En este transcurso me fui dando cuenta que ya estaba en camino. Cada vez que me levanto muy temprano siempre me pasa que ando medio dormido hasta pasar un buen tiempo. El precio de Bauta a La Lisa actualmente esta a $200 CUP (0.53 usd), este varia segun chofer, demanda y precio del combustible. Es un viaje bastante rapido como de media hora. **Lisa - La Habana** ====================

Este viaje cambia de precio con frecuencia, según los conductores o las condiciones del mercado. En estos momentos está a $350 CUP (0.93 usd). Me gusta ir tirando fotos por el camino para hacer tipo itinerario fotográfico y asi tener mas detalles a la hora de hacer publicaciones como estas y mostrarles cómo sería hacer este tipo de viajes si algun dia decides experimentarlo, tanto si eres local o visitas la isla. Una vez aqui en el corazon de La Habana, tengo que coger otro transporte (maquina del tiempo) hasta Guanabo, el punto donde nos recogera una guagua (omnibus) hasta Bacunayagua Abajo. Mientras voy en camino, voy tirando algunas fotos.

_Si en realidad fueran maquinas del tiempo? A donde quisieras que te llevaran? jaja_ **La Habana - Guanabo** ======================= Este es el recorrido más costoso, $500 CUP ($1.30 USD) y a su vez más largo. Guanabo es un pueblo costero de La Habana del este. Es un destino turístico bastante popular por sus playas hermosas. Cuenta con casas playeras de hospedaje y gastronomía local de muy buen nivel. Un lugar ideal para pasar un ambiente relajado. Mi viaje es mucho más lejos, esto es solo una pasada hasta la terminal de guaguas para poder seguir al destino elegido.

Mientras esperaba la guagua para ir para Bacunayagua Abajo, di un recorrido para ver que podía comer ya que tenía hambre. Me encontré con esta cafetería donde venden pizzas. Pedí una. No voy a decir que es la peor pizza del mundo porque seguramente habrá alguna peor, pero está muy cerca de serlo. QUE CLASE PIZZA MAS MALA, POR DIOS!!! Desde que la ví sabía que iba a estar pésima. Al menos no son caras $200 CUP ($ 0.52 usd cents)

**Guanabo - Bacunayagua Abajo** ===============================

Por fin llegó el momento de partir. Este será el tramo más largo de todos pero como es parte del convenio para trasladar a los campistas su precio esta bastante bueno $500 CUP ($1.30 USD). El viaje es lindo ya que va por todo lo largo de la costa norte y hay momentos en que el agua es tan turquesa que no puedes evitar admirarlas y hasta tirar esa foto para incorporar a la colección del viaje.

En menos de una hora estábamos pasando por el puente. Todo el que ha visitado Varadero sabe del Puente de Bacunayagua. Es un punto de cruce entre provincias, una parada obligatoria ya que tiene una de las vistas más increíbles del archipiélago cubano. Un paraíso que vale la alegría y la vivencia de explorarlo. La estadía solamente durará tres días y dos noches (que siempre es mucho menos por el tiempo de transportación), por lo tanto debo organizar bien las horas para sacar el máximo provecho del lugar. El primer día (viernes) llegue como a las 12 del mediodía. Nos recibió Arley y nos explicó un poco los horarios y las actividades que realizaríamos durante estos días. Desde que me bajé de la guagua ya estaba encantado con el lugar. * Esto es lo que estaba buscando. - Pensé con una gran alegría interna. Me fascinan los lugares naturales donde todo sea natural, donde sea virgen y muy poco o casi nada tocado por el hombre. Así es Bacunayagua Abajo. El primer día no hice mucho. Fue un dia para familiarizarme con el lugar. Coger las cosas suaves y relajar. Camine un poco por el campismo para ver que ofertas gastronómicas tienen entre otras amenidades. Places that remain etched in our souls forever. This time it was Bacunayagua Abajo's turn. A small community among mountains, river, and sea that has earned a place in my heart for its vivid colors, the peace it inspires, and the warmth of its people. It all started with the idea of going to a semi-remote place, on the outskirts of the city, where silence and nature abounded. Last year, on a day trip to Puerto Escondido (another wonderful place very close to this one), I had the pleasure of meeting Arley. With his characteristic joy, he welcomed us and organized several activities that day. It was a phenomenal (albeit very short) day. That's why I decided to contact him and make the idea that had been floating around in my head a reality. He offered me this other place: Here begins the live, step-by-step story of a short but intense trip to a charming place. I'll try to give the details as precise as possible so that you can experience every moment of the journey with me. **FOLLOW ME!** I should have packed my backpack throughout the week—I repeated to myself, almost tormented, on Thursday night when it got dark and just a pair of shorts and a sweater folded on the bed made up my luggage. Who needs that much to go camping? Aren't a pair of shorts and a couple of T-shirts enough? These are modern times; no one packs for just one day anymore. There's always a little more you might need: sunscreen for too much sun, those colorful sunglasses for photos, and even a solar charger in case the power goes out (something very common in Cuba these days). It got late, as is typical for me, to pack everything. I barely slept less than a couple of hours; at three in the morning, after packing _"everything I needed"_ in my backpack, my body gave in to exhaustion. It was a strange feeling, since at the same time I felt energized by the excitement of the trip. I managed to sleep. I set an alarm for 4:30, which never went off. Luckily, I woke up a few minutes later, startled, thinking I'd been late. I took a deep breath, like someone trying to push sleep aside while my body rises almost inertly toward the adventure. And it was, a complete adventure. The most exciting. I made myself a cup of coffee to revive myself. I sipped it slowly while I finished the last details of my explorer bag. I even took it with me to my morning shower to ensure every sip would fuel this 120-kilometer (74-mile) journey. If I had driven straight there, it would have taken me less than two hours. But since that wasn't an option, I had to put on a good show of my backpacking skills. I think I did pretty well. I finally left the house, still a little sleepy, unaware of what awaited me along the way. I was only thinking about the destination, unaware that many good stories are made along the way. Public transportation in Cuba is very scarce or almost nonexistent in some places, but private transportation (private cars, minivans, etc.) is readily available throughout the day. **Bauta - La Lisa** ===================

Arriving at the stop of the time machines for Havana in Bauta, one of the **_time machines_** was available. Cars dating back to around 1950, with modern engines adapted from Mercedes Benz, Toyota, and others. In less than half an hour, I was already catching another Almendron, as they are also called, to Havana. During this time, I realized I was already on my way. Every time I wake up very early, I always find myself half asleep until I've had a good time. The fare from Bauta to La Lisa is currently $200 CUP (0.53 USD), which varies depending on the driver, demand, and fuel prices. It's a fairly quick trip, about half an hour long. **Lisa - La Habana**

This trip changes price frequently, depending on drivers or market conditions. Right now, it's $350 CUP (0.93 USD). I like to take photos along the way to create a kind of photo itinerary, so I have more details when making posts like these and show you what this type of trip would be like if you ever decide to experience it, whether you're a local or visiting the island. Once here in the heart of Havana, I have to take another transport (a time machine) to Guanabo, the point where a bus will pick us up to Bacunayagua Abajo. While I'm on the way, I'll take some photos.

Time Machines

_If they were actually time machines? Where would you like to be taken? haha_ **Havana - Guanabo** This is the most expensive route, $500 CUP ($1.30 USD), and the longest. Guanabo is a coastal town in eastern Havana. It's a popular tourist destination for its beautiful beaches. It has beachfront lodging and excellent local cuisine. An ideal place to relax. My trip is much further; this is just a short hop to the bus station before continuing to my chosen destination.

While I was waiting for the bus to go to Bacunayagua Abajo, I took a look around to see what I could eat since I was hungry. I came across this cafe that sells pizzas. I ordered one. I'm not going to say it's the worst pizza in the world because there are probably worse ones, but it's pretty damn close. WHAT A WORSE KIND OF PIZZA, MY GOD!!! From the moment I saw it, I knew it was going to be terrible. At least they're not expensive: $200 CUP ($0.52 USD cents)

**Guanabo - Bacunayagua Abajo** ===============================

The time has finally come to leave. This will be the longest stretch of all, but since it is part of the agreement to transport campers, its price is quite good: $500 CUP ($1.30 USD). The trip is beautiful as it goes along the entire north coast, and there are times when the water is so turquoise that you can't help but admire it and even take a photo to add to your travel collection.

In less than an hour, we were crossing the bridge. Anyone who has visited Varadero beach knows about the Bacunayagua Bridge. It's a crossing point between provinces, a must-see stop as it offers one of the most incredible views of the Cuban archipelago. Or, as its name suggests, it's practically under the bridge, a few meters from the ocean. A paradise worth the joy and experience of exploring. The stay will only last three days and two nights (which is always much less due to transportation time), so I must plan my time well to make the most of the place. On the first day (Friday), I arrived around 12 noon. Arley greeted us and explained a little about the schedule and the activities we would be doing during those days. From the moment I got off the bus, I was already enchanted by the place. _\- This is what I was looking for._ - I thought with great inner joy. I'm fascinated by natural places where everything is natural, where it's pristine and very little or almost nothing has been touched by man. That's Bacunayagua Abajo. The first day I didn't do much. It was a day to familiarize myself with the place. Take things easy and relax. I walked around the campground a bit to see what culinary offerings they have, among other amenities.
