## English Hello everybody! I recently watched the popular Netflix series "Bridgerton" and I want to share my impressions. The series is based on the series of novels "Bridgerton" by the American writer Julia Quinn, consisting of eight books (according to the number of children in the Bridgerton family). The first book of the cycle is called "The Duke and I". The first season is mostly based on it.

#### About the creation of TV series "Bridgerton" - the first TV show of Shonda Rhimes ("Grey's Anatomy", "Scandal", "How to Get Away with Murder") as part of her $150 million contract with Netflix. Work on the TV series began in July 2018. Filming took place in London, Bath (Somerset). The series premiered on December 25, 2020. The first season consists of 8 episodes, the second, third and fourth seasons are planned to be released. Immediately after the release, the series beat all the other Netflix hits in terms of views and became the most discussed and scandalous novelty of 2020. #### Plot and characters The action takes place in London in 1813, where the next social season begins - young men and girls are preparing for a long-awaited debut in high society. Violet, the Dowager Viscountess Bridgerton, the mother of four sons and four daughters, wants to settle her children by concluding successful matches. Eight children of a respected family: Anthony, Benedict, Colin, Daphne, Eloise, Francesca, Gregory, Hyacinth - are in the center of attention.

However, a series of events leads to the fact that she is forced to make a deal with the enviable bachelor Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings, who must help her attract rich suitors, but at the same time wants to avoid the attention of other brides.

В центре сюжета оказывается старшая дочь Дафна, достигшая брачного возраста. Она умна, образована и красива, но не очень представляет, что её ждет после замужества и в чем конкретно заключается выполнение супружеского долга. При этом девушке очень хочется под венец. Однако серия событий приводит к тому, что она вынуждена заключить сделку с завидным холостяком Саймоном Бассетом, герцогом Гастингсом, который должен помочь ей привлечь богатых женихов, но сам при этом хочет избежать внимания других невест.

All the gossip, down to the smallest details, is always in her chronicles. But who is this Lady Whistledown? The answer to this question is trying to find another heroine of the series, Daphne's younger sister - Eloise, who dreams not of marriage, but of education and a career as a writer. She is a kind of symbol of feminism in this series.

Пикантность ситуации придает некая леди Уислдаун, которая в курсе всех светских новостей города и в своих хрониках информирует местных жителей о закулисье придворной жизни. Все сплетни до малейших деталей всегда в ее хрониках. Но кто же такая эта леди Уислдаун? Ответ на этот вопрос пытается найти другая героиня сериала, младшая сестра Дафны - Элоиза, мечтающая не о замужестве, а об образовании и карьеры писательницы. Она является неким символом феминизма в этом сериале.

Unlike the series of novels, Bridgerton takes place in an alternate history with a racially integrated London, where black people are members of high society, and some of them have titles granted by the monarch. The series also touches on several other modern social problems, such as sex education, feminism, so it stands out among the film adaptations of other romance novels. In general, the plot is very simple, in some places it seemed very long. You've definitely seen all the intrigues somewhere before. The characters cardboard cutouts. The actions of the main character Daphne at the beginning of the story contradict the canons of the story that the screenwriters draw for us. She is just trying to find a successful match, while she is positioned as a girl with some depth of character and soul. And there were moments throughout the series when she annoyed me. The secret of the Duke of Hastings is also taken from nothing and is greatly delayed for 8 episodes.

В отличие от серии романов, действие Бриджертона происходит в альтернативной истории с расово интегрированным Лондоном, где темнокожие люди являются членами высшего общества, а некоторые из них имеют титулы, предоставленные монархом. Также сериал затрагивает еще несколько современных социальных проблем, таких как половое воспитание, феминизм, поэтому выделяется среди экранизаций других любовных романов. В целом сюжет очень простой, местами показался очень затянутым. Все интриги вы точно где-то уже видели. Герои достаточно плоские. Действия главной героини Дафны в начале истории противоречат канонам истории, которую нам рисуют сценаристы. Она просто пытается найти удачную партию, при этом ее позиционируют, как девушку с какой-то глубиной характера и души. Да и на протяжении всего сериала были моменты, когда она меня раздражала. Секрет герцога Гастингса тоже взят из ничего и сильно затянут на протяжении 8 серий.

#### The atmosphere and visual component of the TV series The series involves in the process from the first series with juicy colors, scenery, bright costumes. The work of costume designers and decorators at "Bridgerton" deserves the highest praise. The costumes, despite some pretentiousness and historical inaccuracy, turned out to be beautiful, and the scenery was grandiose. Needless to say, if more than two hundred tailors worked for just one season, and more than a hundred outfits were sewn for the main character for only eight episodes. The musical accompaniment of the series also sinks into the soul. This is not classical music of that era. With the help of harp and string quartets, covers of well-known hits of our century were remade to the music of the XIX century. For example, Ariana Grande's "Thank you, next" sounds at the first ball of the season, and Taylor Swift's "Wildest dreams" plays against the background of the "rainy" scene of Simon and Daphne. Chris Bowers, who composed the original tracks, teamed up with Vitamin String Quartet and Duomo to create orchestral performances of songs such as "Girls Like You" by Maroon 5, "In My Blood" by Shawn Mendes and "Bad Guy" by Billy Eilish.

#### Атмосфера и визуальная составляющая сериала Сериал вовлекает в процесс с первой серии сочными красками, декорациями, яркими костюмами. Работа художников по костюмам и декораторов в "Бриджертонах" заслуживает самых высоких похвал. Костюмы, несмотря на некоторую вычурность и историческую неточность, получились красивыми, а декорации – грандиозными. Что и говорить, если больше двухсот портных работало на один только сезон, а для главной героини сшили больше ста нарядов всего для восьми серий. Западает в душу и музыкальное сопровождение сериала. Это не классическая музыка той эпохи. При помощи арфы и струнных квартетов каверы всем известных хитов нашего века были переделаны под музыку XIX века. Например, "Thank you, next" Арианы Гранде звучит на первом балу в сезоне, а "Wildest dreams" Тейлор Свифт играет на фоне "дождливой" сцены Саймона и Дафны. Крис Бауэрс, сочинивший оригинальные треки, объединился с Vitamin String Quartet и Duomo, чтобы создать оркестровые исполнения таких песен, как "Girls Like You" Maroon 5, "In My Blood" Шона Мендеса и "Bad Guy" Билли Айлиш.

#### My impressions In general, the series caused me very contradictory feelings. I can positively evaluate the artistic staging of the scenes, scenery, costumes and music. However, the plot turned out to be formulaic, drawn out and predictable, even despite Netflix's attempts to make the novel more modern and relevant. The behavior of the heroes sometimes caused me a feeling of shame and bewilderment. As for the finale, the only intrigue was one mystery, who is Lady Whistledown. Her identity was revealed in the last minutes of the final episode, and I was really surprised, but then I realized that there were scenes where it was easy to guess who it was. Thus, the series "Bridgerton" can be considered exclusively as an entertaining light series for a couple of evenings, but in no case as a historical novel. Don't expect a masterpiece from the picture. The series "Bridgerton" is beautiful, but this is its only significant advantage, so I can't give it the highest score, because even despite the emotions, the series still remains "average". *My rating:* **6/10**

#### Мои впечатления В целом сериал вызвал у меня очень противоречивые чувства. Положительно я могу оценить художественную постановку сцен, декорации, костюмы и музыку. Однако, сюжет оказался шаблонным, затянутым и предсказуемым, даже несмотря на попытки Netflix сделать бульварный роман более современным и актуальным. Поведение героев иногда вызывало у меня чувство стыда и недоумения. Что касается финала, то единственной интригой была одна загадка, кто же такая леди Уислдаун. Ее личность раскрыли в последних минутах финальной серии, и я действительно была удивлена, но потом осознала, что были сцены, где можно было легко догадаться кто это. Таким образом, сериал "Бриджертоны" можно рассматривать исключительно как развлекательный легкий сериал на пару вечеров, но ни в коем случае не как исторический роман. Не надо ждать от картины какого-то шедевра. Сериал "Бриджертоны" красив, но это его единственное существенное достоинство, поэтому я не могу поставить ему высший балл, ибо даже не смотря на эмоции, сериал все равно остается "средним". *Моя оценка:* **6/10**
