Game: Project Zomboid.

Intro

Here we go. This is the last post of this Project Zomboid mini-series, where we’ve been documenting the learning curve and whether we could achieve a specific objective.

The main goal is to survive in an apocalyptic world full of infected individuals who, with just one successful attack, create a chance of infecting you. The probability of becoming a zombie takes effect approximately three days after an attack, whether it’s a bite, scratch, or laceration. Each has a different likelihood of infection, with a bite being the most likely to transmit the virus.

This game is still under development, so it’s best played with some mods to improve certain mechanics and make it more realistic in some aspects. However, we tried it vanilla style, as we weren’t surviving even three days and never encountered a prolonged gameplay experience.

Ahora sí. Este es el último post de esta mini serie de Project Zomboid, donde hemos estado documentando la curva de aprendizaje y si podíamos lograr un objetivo específico.

El objetivo principal es sobrevivir en un mundo apocalíptico lleno de infectados, los cuales, con solo un ataque exitoso, crean una probabilidad de infectarnos. La probabilidad de convertirse en zombi se activa aproximadamente tres días después de un ataque, ya sea mordida, rasguño o laceración. Cada uno tiene diferentes probabilidades de infección, siendo la mordida la más probable de transmitir el virus.

Este juego aún está en desarrollo, así que es mejor jugarlo con algunos mods para mejorar ciertas mecánicas y hacerlo más realista en algunos aspectos. Sin embargo, nosotros lo probamos en modo vanilla, ya que no sobrevivíamos ni tres días y nunca logramos una experiencia de juego prolongada.

Best Friend

In the zombie apocalypse, the only way to survive longer is through teamwork. This time we have three girls: two sisters and the best friend of one of them.

Dentro del apocalipsis zombi, la única forma de sobrevivir más tiempo es mediante el trabajo en equipo. En esta ocasión, tenemos a tres chicas: dos hermanas y la mejor amiga de una de ellas.

In the first game, we have Rosa O'Hara. A few days had passed, and several people in the neighborhood tried to survive this pandemic. But not many managed to protect themselves from the violent attacks of infected hordes.

Armed with a crowbar and determined to find resources, Rosa sets out at dawn, risking it all to find some food.

En la primera partida tenemos a Rosa O'Hara. Habían pasado algunos días y varias personas en el barrio intentaron sobrevivir a esta pandemia. Pero no muchos lograron protegerse de los violentos ataques de las hordas de infectados.

Con una palanca y dispuesta a conseguir recursos, Rosa sale de madrugada arriesgándose para conseguir algo de comida.

We encountered a zombified survivor. We don’t know who they are, but they had a spear and a bullet bandolier.

In one of the houses, there was a big loot stash and a map marking a location where there were supposedly no zombies. That was the objective.

Nos topamos con una sobreviviente zombificada. No sabemos quién es, pero tenía una lanza y una bandolera de balas.

En una de las casas, había un gran botín y un mapa que señalaba una ubicación donde supuestamente no había zombis. Ese era el objetivo.

So, we had to prepare for a long journey, and I always wanted to enter a supermarket in an apocalypse. All the food you can carry.

Así que había que prepararse para un largo viaje, y siempre quise entrar en un supermercado en un apocalipsis. Toda la comida que puedas llevar.

But it’s not that simple. There were a lot of zombies, and Sara was injured. One bite is enough to be doomed.

Pero no todo es tan sencillo. Había muchos zombis, y Sara fue herida. Una mordida es suficiente para estar condenada.

The phone lines, electricity, and water were still operational. So, Sara told her best friend about the plan and shared the location of where all the resources, the car keys, and the map were.

Las líneas telefónicas, la electricidad y el agua aún funcionaban. Así que Sara le comentó a su mejor amiga del plan y le dio la ubicación del lugar donde estaban todos los recursos, las llaves del auto y el mapa.

Little Sister

Now we play with our second character, who takes on the role of Sara's best friend.

Ahora jugamos con nuestro segundo personaje, quien tiene el papel de la mejor amiga de Sara.

This girl is named Sun, and she received a call from Sara, who explained the entire situation. After that, she gathered her things and made her way to the house to meet up with Sara.

Esta chica se llama Sun y recibió una llamada de Sara, quien le explicó toda la situación. Después de eso, tomó sus cosas y se dirigió a la casa para reunirse con Sara.

When she arrived, she didn't find Sara, but she did come across a note from her that read:

"I've left you this large backpack and a canister of gasoline. Inside the backpack are the car keys for the vehicle parked at the gas station. Transfer everything you can from the house to the car and head to the spot marked on the map. I had to lead the zombies away from this area, so I'll be going in a different direction. I'll see you there."

Al llegar, no encontró a Sara, pero se topó con una nota de ella que decía:

"Te he dejado esta mochila grande y un bidón de gasolina. Dentro de la mochila están las llaves del auto que está estacionado en la gasolinera. Sun checked everything; there were numerous items. She took her phone to call her sister and let her know that Sara had found a safe place. She then told her they would meet there, as there were no zombies in that area since it was far from the city.

Sun revisó todo; había numerosos objetos. Tomó su celular para llamar a su hermana y decirle que Sara había encontrado un lugar seguro. Luego le comentó que se reunirían ahí, ya que no había zombis en esa zona, pues estaba alejada de la ciudad.

So, without a second thought, she started packing and loading items into the car to begin the journey to the shelter. The area was quite clear, as it seemed Sara had attracted several zombies, leading them to another location.

The journey took several hours and was far from easy.

The shelter was overrun with zombies. When Sun realized this, a horde was already behind her; all she could do was pull out her phone to call her sister and warn her not to approach.

El refugio estaba lleno de zombis. Cuando Sun se dio cuenta de esto, ya había una horda detrás de ella; lo único que pudo hacer fue sacar su celular, llamar a su hermana y advertirle que no se acercara.

It was raining and getting dark, so Sun decided to confront the zombies. Her plan was to enter the woods and lose her pursuers. However, once inside, she found even more zombies... It was the end for her.

Meeting Point

After receiving a final call from her sister urging her not to approach the meeting point because it was swarming with infected, the last thing she heard was her sister's scream as the phone fell to the ground.

Después de recibir la última llamada de su hermana diciéndole que no se acercara al punto de encuentro, ya que estaba lleno de infectados, lo último que escuchó fue el grito de su hermana mientras el celular caía al suelo.

Marianne couldn't just stand by. It was night, and rain poured down. But her sister was in trouble.

Marianne no se podía quedar sin hacer nada. Era de noche y estaba lloviendo. Pero su hermana estaba en problemas.

Determined to protect her sister, she took a flashlight and ventured into the darkened streets during the pandemic, searching for weapons in her neighbor's house. She couldn't imagine going out without something to defend herself.

Decidida a proteger a su hermana, tomó una linterna y se aventuró en las oscuras calles durante la pandemia, buscando armas en la casa del vecino. No podía imaginar salir sin algo con qué defenderse.

To her misfortune, the neighbor was infected and there was only a sledgehammer. She had no choice but to end her neighbor's life and take what she needed to go to the meeting point.

A su mala suerte, el vecino estaba infectado y solo había una almádena. No tuvo otra opción que terminar con la vida de su vecino y tomar lo que requería para ir al punto de encuentro.

The journey had to be made on foot. Luckily, Marianne, our protagonist in this chapter, lived close to the meeting point. But still, it took her a day to arrive, as going out at night became very dangerous, and the idea was to arrive in one piece.

El recorrido había que hacerlo a pie. Por suerte, Marianne, nuestra protagonista en este capítulo, vivía cerca del punto de encuentro. Pero aún así, le tomó un día llegar, ya que salir de noche se tornó muy peligroso y la idea era llegar en una pieza.

Marianne was making her way along a dirt path through the forest.

The trees were very useful for hiding, but nonetheless, she had to be alert to the sounds because there were zombies in the area.

Los árboles eran muy útiles para ocultarse, pero de todas maneras había que estar atento a los sonidos porque había zombis en la zona.

We arrived at the meeting point by entering from behind, and apparently, with the sledgehammer, you can break down walls. Since the shelter was barricaded and it was clear we wouldn't stay here, we entered by breaking through a wall.

Llegamos al punto de encuentro entrando por detrás y al parecer con la almádena puedes destruir paredes. Como el refugio estaba barricado y ya quedaba claro que no nos quedaríamos aquí, entramos rompiendo toda una pared.

The shelter didn't have much, but it did have a variety of firearms and ammunition.

El refugio no tenía mucho, pero sí una variedad de armas de fuego y municiones.

A whole day had passed since Sun called us saying not to approach. We only found his car running and a large backpack thrown aside.

Marianne, furious and with tears from the loss of her sister, finished off all the zombies in the area.

Ya había pasado todo un día desde que Sun nos llamó diciendo que no nos acercáramos. Solo encontramos su auto encendido y una mochila grande tirada a un lado.

Marianne, enfurecida y con lágrimas por la pérdida de su hermana, acabó con todos los zombis de la zona.

It got dark, and after calming down, she filled the tank with the gasoline that was in the can. She loaded the car with some resources from the shelter. Not everything because the car already had resources inside.

Anocheció y luego de calmarse, llenó el tanque con la gasolina que había en el bidón. Llenó el carro de algunos recursos del refugio. No todos porque ya de por sí este auto ya tenía recursos dentro.

On the way, we saw things that could be useful, but there was no time to stop. We had to find a safe place to leave all the things we were carrying in the car. Maybe later we would come back for those things.

It was a few minutes of driving, and the ideal was to go on dirt roads to see if we could find a place really free of zombies. Not like the previous one marked on the map.

En el camino vimos cosas que nos podían servir, pero no había tiempo para detenernos. Teníamos que buscar un lugar seguro donde dejar todas las cosas que cargábamos en el auto. Quizás después volvamos por esas cosas.

Fueron algunos minutos de conducción y lo ideal era ir en los caminos de tierra a ver si encontrábamos algún lugar realmente libre de zombis. No como el anterior en el mapa anotado.

We managed to find three secluded houses near the lake. They also had fences.

Logramos dar con tres casas apartadas y cerca del lago. Además, tenían cercas.

There were only two infected people in our new house. We made a huge mess inside.

Había solo dos personas infectadas en nuestra nueva casa. Hicimos todo un lío dentro.

We removed the corpses. We didn't want any corpses inside the house.

Sacamos a los cadáveres. No queríamos nada de cadáveres dentro de la casa.

We placed the car with all the loot inside the garage. Then we cleaned all the blood from the walls and the floor.

Colocamos el auto con todo el loot dentro del garage. Luego limpiamos toda la sangre de las paredes y del suelo.

Everything was so clean that the only dirty thing in the room was us.

Todo quedó tan limpio que lo único sucio en la habitación éramos nosotros.

We changed our clothes and went outside to take care of the former owners of the house.

Nos damos un cambio de ropa y vamos afuera a encargarnos de los antiguos dueños de la casa.

We are going to bury the bodies. We don't want to attract other zombies with the putrefying flesh in the middle of our street.

Vamos a enterrar los cuerpos. No queremos atraer a otros zombis por la carne putrefacta en todo el medio de nuestra calle.

We took a beer and got to work.

Nos tomamos una cerveza y vamos a ello.

It was a very difficult few days. But we are finally in a safe place with plenty of tools and supplies to survive.

Fueron unos días muy difíciles. Pero por fin estamos en un lugar seguro y con muchas herramientas y suministros para sobrevivir.

We continue with what Sun and Rosa left us.

Continuamos con lo que nos dejó Sun y Rosa.

There is no sign of zombies within kilometers. So we decided not to unpack anything from the car, take a shower, and go to sleep.

No hay señal de zombis cerca en kilómetros. Así que decidimos aún no desempacar nada del auto, darnos una ducha e ir a dormir.

The backpack goes with us to the room. It has saved our lives more than once.

We went in search of our sister, but we arrived late. All we can do is survive and wait for a cure for this pandemic someday.

La mochila se va con nosotros a la habitación. Nos salvó la vida en más de una ocasión.

Fuimos en búsqueda de nuestra hermana, pero llegamos tarde. Solo nos queda sobrevivir y esperar que algún día salga la cura para esta pandemia.

Summary

Days pass in the world regardless of the new characters. This means that if the first character survives for 10 days and you start another from scratch, the world will have those 10 days of existence. This is important because there are events that happen or get activated after a world reaches certain days since its creation.

The game mode we chose was survival. There are several game modes, and you can also create your own. In this game's series, there was a default zombie respawn. We discovered this during gameplay.

You could say it's quite sandbox. You can disable zombie respawn, their mode of migrating from one area to another, whether they can run or not, etc. There are many things we can still explore.

For now, I think we have achieved the objective of the series. And this will be the last chapter regarding this world.

Los días transcurren en el mundo independientemente de los personajes nuevos. Eso quiere decir que si el primer personaje sobrevive 10 días y comienzas otro desde cero el mundo tendrá esos 10 días de existencia. Esto es importante porque hay eventos que suceden o se activan luego de que un mundo cumple ciertos días desde su creación.

El modo de juego que escogimos fue superviviente. Hay varios modos de juego, también puedes crear el tuyo. En este modo de juego de la serie existía un respawn de zombis por defecto. Esto lo descubrimos en el transcurso de jugar.

Se podría decir que es bastante sandbox. Puedes desactivar el respawn de zombis, su modo de migrar de una zona a otra. Si pueden correr o no, etc. Hay muchas cosas que todavía podemos explorar.

De momento creo que cumplimos con el objetivo de la serie. Y este será el último capítulo con respecto a este mundo.

What a movie we made, haha. We can now say that I've learned the basics of Project Zomboid. The truth is, it’s an amazing game once you lose the fear of dying and understand what you have to do.

A total of 8 characters died. I think it would be ideal to learn a bit more and create an open world with customized features.

We might soon share some gameplay videos. I’m not sure yet. See you in another post trying out a game with medium or low requirements.

Un peliculón el que nos armamos jaja. Ya podemos decir que he aprendido lo básico de Project Zomboid. La verdad que sí es un juegardo una vez que le pierdes el miedo a morir y entiendes qué es lo que tienes que hacer.

En total murieron 8 personajes. Y creo que lo ideal sería aprender un poco más y hacer un mundo abierto con características personalizadas.

Pronto podríamos compartir algunos gameplays. Aún no lo sé. Nos vemos en otro post probando algún juego de medios o bajos requisitos.
