The elixir of life as brewed by a witch and her familiars
The entire piece:
I started this drawing as a sketch last week and began to digitally ink it on Friday before my guests arrived. I had thought I'd finish it that day, but didn't want to rush.
I do need to learn to use video capture to show some video drawing, but until that gets checked off the list, the gif will have to suffice.
Here it is with some of the layers building it up.
I started a black and white drawing on the day my company was arriving as I knew it would be that 'zen' moment for me. And I was glad of it yesterday and this morning, as when I needed to get back into the swing of my schedule, it was the perfect segway piece for me.
I can't believe simply being unplugged for two days made such a difference.
In a way it was very refreshing, but I also saw that it was a bit like the forbidden elixir labeled 'drink me'. It can be tempting to 'Alice myself to Wonderfland'. And were I too drain that bottle down entirely, I'd have a hard time coming back online at all. Although, I know I'd miss Steemit, it can be tempting to be disconnected.
Sometimes I feel like I have to work at staying tethered to the earth.
As if I don't do tangible worldly things like sweep the floor, sit at my desk, wash some dishes, I might float away up into my own little world. Odd as it may sound, some of those 'worldly' things are being online, writing posts, social media et al.
It's funny to think of something almost surreal, like the digital world, as an earth-bound worldly thing.
However, when one uses it in some ways as a job, it is a good tether. A fine way to stay grounded in the modern world.
I have mentioned in the past that before discovering steemit I was very close to unplugging.
It would be an odd sort of world, I suppose, as I'd certainly be left out eventually. The world is only moving more and more into the digital realm and if one were to stay unplugged long enough, they might just feel themselves standing alone in a void of quiet...but I digress.
I've work to get back to and I still feel I need to catch up with many of you, so I shall.
