RE: Name YOUR decentralized social network?

OK, my reflexive reaction to Co-Opt was one of coercion. I'm wondering if most people would necessarily read it as your more positive interpretation?

You did indicate your response is how you would react reflexively, not after deep thought. I had to look up the definitions and etymology and think about it deeply for a minute to eliminate that reflexive reaction.

It’s interesting to note how given humans are herding / tribal animals when we don’t precisely know the definition of a word and we’re accustomed to it being used in a negative sense w.r.t. to the herd, then we imagine meanings which aren’t correct.

How could a word that has an etymology that originates from choice and cooperation (e.g. co-op short for cooperate) mean coercion?

What is going on here in your mind is that co-opt means for one group to take control over something and direct it towards their aims instead of the aims it was originally intended. For example if we state that the civil rights movement was co-opted by globalists to promote feminism and other subversive propaganda. So it’s not coercion, but by the free will and choice of others that the original aim is subverted. Yet it implies underhandedness and deceit.

But the word can also be used to mean subverting a corrupt aim and converting it to a beneficial one. In fact, the globalists would argue that they were destroying parochial tribalism to promote greater economies-of-scale and degrees-of-freedom for cooperation globally.

The Co-opt name choice is definitely a much more confrontation meme. It means subverting the existing order not by coercion but by uniting together given our free will to choose. It means adopting some of the extant objects from the extant world such as the Internet, but subverting it with decentralization which offers the people the choice to destroy/subsume/disintermediate (i.e. co-opt) the extant, centralized order of things.

Oodles is less serious. If we want a serious meme, then Co-opt is the best for a rebellious, decentralization revolution expressed non-technologically.

Co-opt is a vocabulary and IQ test of sorts as well.

I registered some co-opt/coopt domain names so that we have options to choose from as we figure out more about the marketing we can make these decisions.

I have to say I the "Boo" in Boonus didn't leap out to me at all. I'd be surprised if that was a common reaction.

Ditto for me.

Keeper and Uncommons show potential in conveying their individual roles given the right fonts / logos, as with Boonus.

I’m very keen on the circle logo for Uncommons that resembles a ® or © symbol:

Or perhaps the circle around the “un” part of the word. Boonus may work with the sunrise meme.
