ahmadmanga's Gaming's Daily #13: Collecting Gaming Posts - How I Choose Which Posts To Read/Put in My Daily?

"Steemit Gamers: Do we only care about Posting? I was like that too, but I forced myself to read posts of others. A blog is nothing without its readers.

Salam (Peace)

While I was thinking of what to write here, I read one comment by @felipejoys about why only few people entered his game giveaway:

I think the real problem is, most steemian gamers are mostly only interested in posting content, not checking out other people's blogs. They usually don't connect with anyone. And I think this happens just because they don't understand the importance of networking.

Yeah... Steemit is usually seen by users as "write something and hope some whale sees it and upvote." Many of us just post and don't read other posts. Since comments are upvotable too some users just spam comments all the time, making the bloggers not sure who read their post and who didn't.

I think it's justified, it takes a lot of work to find a good post that deserves reading. Trending & Hot pages are full of low quality posts.

I didn't read many steemit posts before I started writing my Daily posts, I started writing them as a way to solve this problem. My Gaming Daily posts are usually consist of:

  1. Random #gaming topic. mostly a game I played recently, or some news about a game I'm excited about. They are usually less detailed than my Reviews or #thinkingwhilegaming posts.
  2. A Collection of posts published on #gaming tag I read that day, usually five posts. I talk about 2-3 of them in detail.
  3. [Optional] Three of my older posts that I think related to one of the two points above.

Forcing myself to 'Read'

One of the reasons I made my Gaming Daily posts this way is to find a reason to read other people's posts. Soon I learned that with all the bad posts it isn't easy to find a good one to read, I usually put everything I 'read' in my daily so I miss a lot of good posts. But here's what I usually do:

  • I open #gaming tag. then go to the new section.
  • Since I find all gaming posts, I look for titles I'm interested in or images from games I like.
  • Without interesting title + attractive first image I probably won't find you.

After I open the post:

  • I give it around 10 seconds to find a (head)line or picture that interests me in it.
  • I read the parts around it and if I liked it I read the rest of the post. (See fast reading below.)
  • If the previous point didn't happen I'll probably go to the next post in my queue.

So, while the posts I choose might not be the best, might not even good. They all have something interesting in them. I don't look at usernames a lot, but if I find myself reading the same users posts more than once and liked them each time: Congrats, you got a new follower.

Tips for Fast Reading

Maybe you don't read posts because they are too long and you don't have time. If they was stories then I agree with you, but most gaming posts can be understood even if you didn't read the whole thing.

When I read posts, I focus on the points I think important.

  • The headlines: some posts are so well-written that you only read them and understand the whole thing.
  • The first part of each paragraph: in most cases you know what to expect from the next 4 lines with just three words. Saves time.
  • Keywords: A post about FFXV and you only want to see if the blogger put the release date? look for the word "release", or better: Look only for numbers. (I use Ctrl + F sometimes).

As a writer it doesn't bother me if someone only reads some parts of my post if they enjoyed or got something useful from them. But if you want to give me a spam comment be professional about it.

What do you think?
