The best horror games of 2017 - Play with sweaty hands

It is that time again. December has arrived and 2017 is almost over. When it comes to games, it was a good year. Now that it is getting colder outside and getting darker and faster, it seemed like a good time to take a look at what we had to do with horror games. Read here the top 5 best horror games of 2017.

5. Little Nightmares

In Little Nightmares, the little girl Six is locked up in The Maw. A scary world where she only wants to leave again. But escape is not just done. The Maw is full of scary enemies who drive Six. An invisible monster, the crazy cooks and a creature with long arms called The Janitor are examples of this.

Little Nightmares may seem like a simple platformer when you look at the trailers, but it is not. According to our own Rox, the game is a nice mix of Tim Burton films, the games Limbo and Inside with a touch of Greek mythology. And with only a lighter as a weapon you have to be inventive to escape from this dark world. The game is a bit short with its five hours, but the DLC The Depths adds some extra gameplay.

Little Nightmares was released on 28 April for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

4. Observer

Also developer Bloober Team, the studio behind Layers of Fear, did not sit still in 2017. A new chilling adventure in the same spirit as Layers of Fear is Observer. The game is set in a cyberpunk-like world in the year 2084. You play a special agent in the game that can penetrate the thoughts and memories of others.

As soon as you do this you will get the most crazy and distorted images that can be seen. The environments change every time bizarre things happen around you. You will sometimes shudder or even startle the events that are being served to you. And the voice of Rutger Hauer makes the game even more atmospheric than it already is.

Observer is therefore right in this list in fourth place. The game came out on August 15 for PC.

3. Resident Evil 7 Biohazard

Resident Evil may not be missing in this list of best horror games. Especially now that the franchise with the seventh official part has returned to its roots. In Resident Evil 7 Biohazard you end up in the Bakers' house. A family that is rather strange to say the least.

Soon after you go into the estate of the family the pleuris breaks loose. And from that moment on the constant tension and real survival horror is what turns the clock. Resident Evil is full of scary spots, dirty things, filthy opponents and moments that make your heart skip. Exactly what a horror game should have.

Unfortunately, this halfway through the game turns something around and the game is just a bit more action than horror. If this had not been the case, Resident Evil 7 would have been higher in this list. The game was released on January 24 for the PC, PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One.

2. Outlast 2

Developer Red Barrels released the second part of Outlast this year. This part is much more frightening and sicker than the first part. This time the developer takes us to a remote village in Arizona. The narrow and dilapidated village is led by a sect, which in itself is a recipe for a lot of screeching, but there is also a supernatural element added to the game.

Although Outlast 2 does not scare you with jumpscares in a standard way, the game does that by confronting you with unexpected situations where you have to flee your life. The game is surrounded by a scary atmosphere that keeps you on the edge of your chair.

1. The Evil Within 2

Bethesda has a nice first place this year with The Evil Within 2. The sequel to the sick game that took place in a psychiatric hospital is finally there. Mobius was not finished with Sebastien and so you have to crawl into his skin again. And you will also be sent back to the STEM program.

What you find there is nothing less than a gruesome and sick chaos. The streets are populated by mutated creatures and on top of that runs a maniac who sees death as art. As a cherry on the cake there is also a spirit around. Enough reasons to scare you out of the body.
