Resident Evil 7 End of Zoe DLC Review - On Hero's Path

Resident Evil 7 was a real nightmare, but in the right sense. The game brought a nice dose of horror to your living room and was even playable in VR. However, the whole story technique was not completely finished yet. Time for a reunion in the End of Zoe DLC review. Because how is it with her?

Whoever played the main story knows that the Baker family is anything but ordinary. In any case after the visit of the terrifying Eveline. With her evil powers, she has the family completely under control and that does not go well for everyone. But in that spectacle that you pass through the eyes of Ethan, it remains very silent about daughter Zoe at a given moment.

The story of Zoe Baker

Fortunately Capcom now offers an answer to the pressing question: what is the situation with Zoe? This last (and very clearly labeled) extension is the icing on the season pass cake and although this last trip is not very long, the series is closed in a strong way.

For the people who are not yet aware of it, in The End of Zoe DLC, the plot is about Zoe Baker. Still infected by Eveline, she tries to escape from the evil forces of the innocent looking girl. Unfortunately, this is not completely tasty and soon she is completely covered with a layer of crystal; she is dying. She is quickly found by a number of Umbrella soldiers who are trying to help her.

Unfortunately for them, Joe, the uncle of Zoe, is also in the neighborhood and with a few punches he manages to take out the soldiers. Like his brother Jack, Joe is hugely protective of his family and he sees it as his duty to save Zoe. And that is exactly what awaits you in this two-hour adventure.

Apply with your bare fists

But those two hours are just slightly different than you are used to the main game. The first personal perspective is still of the game, but this time weapons play a much smaller role. No, uncle Joe is more of the direct confrontation and prefers his bare fists over the use of a shooting iron.

With that, the gameplay is slightly overhauled, because fistfights were not yet processed in the game. The enemies you encounter are mainly the more common Molded from the original, with some new opponents here and there. In general, the combat by this choice is not very difficult anymore, partly because enemies are never attacked by a few punches.

With this, End of Zoe chooses action over horror, although you will often feel uncomfortable when you walk through the dark woods and maneuver through the marsh to your waist. Great is that the DLC tries to do something different than the original and that is only praiseworthy. Although it is a pity that Zoe has a relatively small role in her own DLC. Joe steals the show here as the human tank he is. In addition, the separate price of 15 euros is a bit on the high side.

Conclusion

Is End of Zoe a crucial piece of content that you have to play to understand the overall story? No, certainly not. The plot of the DLC is negligible and only the end is fun to grab. But you do not have to put this extension in your digital shopping cart either. End of Zoe is fun for people who embrace the gameplay of Resident Evil 7 and want more of it, either with a twist.

The gameplay offers a new perspective on defeating the deformed enemies hidden in the game and the whole offers a nice mix of horror and action. Although you have passed the content in about two hours, it does not feel like a lean concluding piece of this seventh part. This chapter may now be closed, this will certainly not be the last time we hear something from the Resident Evil series . So on to the next horror spectacle!
