Memories of a Sandwich
...or how a Dude got addicted!
He grew up in a "poor" middle class family. It was in the sixties and seventies when this Dude made his first steps. A real RockNrolla who didn't knew what happens to his mind when he meets a plain sandwich, me.
Up until the third grade, his morning meal was usually just a slice of bread with butter and jam, if he was lucky. Most of the time, though, it was just that slice with butter sprinkled with some OVO. Ovomaltine, a Swiss national drink dissolved in milk or water. At the time, it was the morning drink of millions of kids there.
Then for dinner, the Dude even had ham and cheese on his slice of bread.... and sometimes a slice of bread on top. He had no real idea yet that there was a whole universe of these bread constructs out there.
Then the day came. His teacher found a "job" for the school kids to fund the next school trip to the mountains. A large company that makes sandpaper internationally "desperately needed our help" to mail letters to their customers. So we all went, folded paper, stuffed and labeled envelopes to help the company with the mail. And then it happened...
After the work was done, everyone was offered a ham sandwich and a small bottle of KackOKula. The Dude couldn't believe his palate.... a hot dog sandwich filled with butter, ham and a slice of pickle. Wow, the taste buds exploded right into his still growing brain. The impression of that moment will stay with him for the rest of his life.
Personally, I believe that with the mixture of the plain white flour bread and the salty ham, the Dude experienced more of a poop-ocula-phony that initiated a cardio-vascular fitness round in his body.
Years later, as a trained chef, I was still the Dude's favorite menu. As a bread addict, it wasn't so easy to get away from me either. There were times when he fed for years "only" on my delicacy in all its most beautiful variations.
On top of that, he learned on his job all the many different international versions of my drug arsenal. Club sandwiches and hamburgers became his specialty. You could see it too, the Dude had almost grown into two Dudes.
No wonder, because Dude just couldn't make "regular" sandwiches. In his pub years, he became famous for it. His biggest hit at that time was the "Triple-Bacon&Egg-Cheeseburger." People came from far, just to see if they could eat this monster in its entirety. The composition was:
- Large burger bun
- 3 ground beef steaks of 120 grams each
- One fried egg
- 6 slices of prime British bacon ~about 120 grams
- 3 slices of cheddar cheese ~about 100 grams
- Lettuce, tomato, cucumber, remoulade or BBQ sauce
- served with Country Fries (unpeeled fried potato slices)
He has been sharing his creations on the blockchain since 2018. First in the "SteemitSandwichContest" and then three years later with his own competition B.I.S.S. - the Blockchains International Sandwich Squad.
I will forever and ever be his greatest love. Understandably so!

The ingredients for this "No Waste Of Taste" sandwich are mostly leftovers from the days before....
- Fried rice
- Azzuki beans
- Eggs
- Goat cheese
- Tofu roll
- Home made Wild garlic buds pickles
- Home made sauerkraut
- Parsley
- Whole grain toast
