My KISS to you

It is that time of the month again. What do I mean, I hear you say!
It is #BoM time for the awesome community that is Silver Bloggers

This month the theme is Sandwich Memories and this will be my entry.

Please note the Public Service Announcement: I have eaten dinner and no stomachs were hurt in the writing of this entry.

My immediate memories when we talk about sandwich memories are childhood.

So let's hit the fast rewind button and zoom back to when I was 10.

That was when I got sent to boarding school and my parents and siblings would relocate from Edinburgh to The Orkney Islands off the North of Scotland. As it was only for a year and I was unphasable they asked if I wanted to switch from being a dayboy to a boarder for a year.
Why not I thought.
Well blimey, nobody said the food at breakfast and dinner would be even worse than school lunches 🤣🤣🤣

The housekeeper would take pity on us. She would leave bread out and we could make sandwiches for ourselves.
However, she would only buy the two most foul tasting things for a ten old to taste and that is Lemon Curd and Sandwich Spread!

I thought about creating a sandwich for this contest. Over the years I have made many sorts and I love to cook which all stemmed from being straved basically as a boarder for six years!

I thought about making one of my home made burgers like @fionasfavourites loves to tease us with

but I didn't.

Thinking of @artywink I thought about making one of my egg mayo baps that I make at three in the morning when my arthritis flareup makes sleep impossible

but I didn't.

I thought about making an avocado and scrambled egg open sandwich inspired by @eylz619

but I didn't.

Then at lunchtime today I had a Eureka moment.

I love to live in the Now and so I decided to make my KISS sandwich inspired by @coquicoin as she has never eaten a duck egg!

You might know KISS as Keep It Simple Sweetheart or Keep It Simple Stupid.

For me in this post of course a KISS is actually a Keep It Simple Sandwich 🥪😀🥚🍳

Little did I know the memory that was about to be evoked as I ate this fried duck egg bap.

It is quite ironic as I was eating this KISS of mine, I realised that I am now living in Kirkcaldy a town in Fife. My maternal grandfather was a huge Freemason and was high up in the Scottish hierarchy. Being a retired hot shot banker he was the Grand Treasurer of the Scottish Freemasons back in the days when they were really popular. When he passed away in a smaller town close to St Andrews, there was a memorial service conducted here in Kirkcaldy and I was 14 at the time. I just remember all these people standing outside the church as there was no room inside, but they wanted to pay their respects.

The KISS duck egg bap also took on more significance. My grandfather had cancer and was being treated at my grandparents home. I had a school friend who I was staying with not far from their house. I remember that I was frying us some hens eggs for egg baps for my friend and his mum, when she got the call saying that grandpa had passed away.

Even though we had been expecting it, it was still a shock and indeed it was a shock that I got today as I had not thought about that memory for many many years.

So there we go, even living in the Now writing for our fellow Silver Bloggers I have been transported back on an emotional memory of my grandfather.
