Riftwatchers-Fire.png

Amidst the Chaos that has brought only darkness and despair.
A small flicker of light may carry all the world's hope.
The Riftwatchers are coming
And the Splinterlands will never be the same.
- Riftwatcher's Trailer

Introduction

Hi! @Saydie here, playing Splinterlands everyday.

Ritwatchers is a mini set for the Chaos Legion much like how Dice is for the Untamed and for quite a while now, Riftwatchers have been available for ranked battles and has brought big changes on the game. Not only that most of the monsters are mana- hungry as lots of them cost high mana, some even exceeding 10, they also introduced a new ability called Fury which doubles the damage for monsters that have the Taunt ability. Recently, I made a review on Riftwatchers summoners which I'll drop the link below and now, I'll go and gave my review for the monsters starting with the Fire element.

Lore

Ash mirages are often mistaken for inanimate deadwood. In reality, they are fiery spirits that live in the husks of long-dead trees, their charred wood glowing with embers of ash as they lumber across the hot plains and deserts of the Burning Lands. If threatened, they defend themselves by flinging fireballs and flaming branches at their enemies.

When the Chaos Legion encroached upon the desolate lands of the ash mirages, they harassed the creature, taking sharp axes to their sturdy shell of wood. For a time, the ash mirages avoided the invaders, but the Riftwatchers arrived and convinced them to fight back. Thereafter, the ash mirages would sneak within range of their foes’ camps and attack them with salvos of devastating infernos. Continue Reading...

Ash Mirage is a range monster of Fire element. It has the Headwinds ability at level 1 which reduce range damage by -1 and Reflection Shield at level 6 which makes it immune to all indirect or reflected damage. Lore

Septic slimes feed on bacteria found on armor and weapons. No matter the armament’s build, quality, or make—be it metal, wood, or stone—the slime consumes it whole. They have little intelligence and are slow-moving, yet they can still burn the flesh off warriors trapped in their armor.

Once attached to a piece of armor or weapon, the slime is near impossible to get off. They are difficult to harm as they have no organs or brains, and ones that are wounded can heal any damage by feasting on flesh or weapons.

The slimes secrete a toxic sludge that burns any surface it comes into contact with. Contact with flesh paralyzes the victim, leaving them stunned while the slime consumes them.

Septic slimes form in the depths of volcanoes and heat vents. They can eat their way out of any material except glass. They are sometimes captured, put into vials, and sold or used as weapons. Continue Reading...

Lore

Before he joined the Riftwatchers, Lakit Pekmip was the headmaster of a wizarding academy on his home world. He was revered for not only his power as a mage, but for his patience and kindness as well. He was often sought for his wisdom and counsel. It was said that there was no problem he could not solve and no subject in which he was not an expert. Yet he remained humble and devoted his life to serving others.

He had a wife and five children: three girls and two boys, all of whom showed a natural aptitude for magic. His family, his students, and his community meant everything to him. They were his entire world. Continue Reading...

Technowizologist_stats.png

Use Case

Technowizologist is a magic monster of the Fire element. It has the Stun ability at level 1 which causes its target monster to not be able to attack for a turn. Having Fury at level 4 allows it to deal double damage to monsters with Taunt ability and at level 8, it has the Comouflage ability which hides it from direct attacks until it was on the first position. This becomes important on Heavy Hitters ruleset where stunned monsters received double damage. It also deals doubles damage for monsters with Taunt ability. Since it uses magic, it can deal damage directly to the health of the opponent without getting through the armor and it can attack at the fist position.

Lore

Lyshi was the greatest city in all of Argia. It boasted spectacular buildings, a wealth of cultures, and one of the most formidable militaries to have ever existed. Yet still, it was plagued by rebel insurgents.

These guerrilla forces took to placing explosive charges in the sewers and tunnels beneath the city, wreaking havoc on its defenses, commerce, and general welfare. They were the bane of Argian civilized life. Pledging to end this nuisance once and for all, the Earl Marshall equipped his fire wardens with state-of-the-art bloodfire amplifiers to clear the tunnels. Armed with their new blasting weapons, they became known as tinderlocks and quickly became an effective deterrent against any future sappers. Continue Reading...

Tinderlock_stats.png

Use Case

Tinderlock is a range monster of the Fire element. At level 1, it has the Last Stand ability which increases all of its stats by 1.5% and Close Range ability which allows it to attack at the 1st position. It has Silence at level 4 which reduces magic damage by -1 and Deathblow which doubled the damage when the opponent only has one monster left. It is a good counter against "Byzantine Kitty or Scarred Llama Mage+ Kron the Undying, Gelatinous Cube, Cornealus combo on the higher league and it's also a great replacement for Lost Magic ruleset where magic is not available since it can still attack at the first position.

Lore

Mordeus is a devil monarch that dwells in the lower planes, where it rules Conflagis and its inhabitants of demons and other fiends. Scholars believe Mordeus feeds on anger and can influence anyone or anyplace where anger is intense. Those who draw his attention become mad with rage. Buildings tremble and fall to ruin. Fire erupts from the land.

Once Mordeus has consumed enough anger, the devil monarch can give it physical form—or even appear himself—wreaking havoc and killing anyone nearby. Continue Reading...

Card Use Case

Mordeus is a melee monster of the Fire element. At level1, it has the Opportunity ability which allows it to target the monster with the least health. It will have Stun at level 3 which causes the target to skip a turn and at level 4, it will have Piercing which deals the excess damage to the health of the opponent monster when all the armor is used up. It is good to use at Reverse Speed rule set since it is a very slow card and it's weakness that is its low health will be covered- up when playing at the Equalizer rule set where the health of all monsters are the same.

Final Thoughts

With Riftwatchers now added to the ranked battles, it added more varieties and combinations on the strategies that we can use specially on High- Mana battles and one thing I notice is that even at their base level, most of this monster are competitive enough for higher leagues.

Many of the Fire monsters have the Stun ability which can rendered the opponent unable to attack for a turn which will help greatly during the Heavy Hitters rule set and most of them are really slow but powerful monster which are good for Reverse Speed rule set.

The monsters that I really like on this group was Ash Mirage and Tinderlock because they are monsters that gives de- buffs to the opponent which will reduce the damage of the opponent.
