Today we will examine automobile mascots. Another name for automobile mascots is hood emblems. As you know, hood emblems are the logos used to indicate the brand of the cars you currently use or see on the road. In fact, it is a kind of signature of the company that is the manufacturer of this car. When I think of the hood emblem, the old moving hood emblems of Mercedes-Benz came to my mind. I guess they don't use that emblem anymore on their new cars.

Kaput amblemleri bildiğiniz üzere şimdilerde kullandığınız ya da yolda gördüğünüz arabaların markasını belirtmek için kullanılan logodur. Aslında bu arabanın üreticisi olan firmanın bir nevi imzasıdır. Kaput amblemi deyince benim aklıma Mercedes-Benz'lerin eski oynar başlıklı kaput amblemleri geldi. As it is written in the information table in the locked window where the mascots are located, the emblems of this engine hood were used quite widely in the past. So essentially car owners were using these mascots to customize their cars. To tell the truth, if I lived in the 1950s, I would definitely have decorated the hood of my car with one of these beautiful mascots. Of course, some of these hood mascots were also used by automobile manufacturers themselves. For example, Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar and Rolls-Royce are just a few that come to mind.

I wanted to touch these mascots, which were exhibited on a very wide scale from the 1920s until recently, in this showcase of the Key Museum. In order not to harm the mascots and for the safety of the mascots, they were kept in a locked and secure showcase. Even though I couldn't touch the hood emblems, I can say that it was enough for me to see, examine and photograph them. It was like traveling in time. I am sure that each mascot has a different story. Some were using these mascots to show off. Some to beautify their car and maybe even customize it. Some believed it brought luck, others believed it protected him.

I loved the glass mascots made by the glass artist Rene Lalique, who lived almost a century ago. I have always been very envious of glass artists. While shaping glass is already a difficult task, turning the desired shape into a masterpiece is a task that requires mastery. Talented artist Lalique used the first of his glass mascots in his own car. Later, naturally, it continued to produce mascots for other cars. I love the little owl mascot named OWL. I love such minimal and cute things.
Bundan neredeyse yüzyıl önce yaşamış cam sanatçısı Rene Lalique'nin yaptığı camdan maskotları çok sevdim. Cam sanatçılarına oldum olası çok özenmişimdir. In this section, besides the glass mascots produced by Lalique, there were also silver and bronze mascots. Among them, the STATUE OF LIBERTY mascot caught my attention. There were usually animal sculptures. The mascot named AIDA among them was quite large compared to the others. It was as flamboyant as it was big. I can consider this mascot for the hood of my car. If I owned a 1967 Ford Mustang GT Fastback, I would definitely use the ram head you see in the photos as a hood ornament. I think both the Mustang and the ram represent strength, durability and an aggressive build. Only something like this would suit a Mustang. :)
Bu bölümde Lalique'nin ürettiği camdan maskotların dışında gümüş ve bronz maskotlar da bulunuyordu. Onların içinden de STATUE OF LIBERTY maskotu oldukça ilgimi çekti. Genelde hayvan heykelleri vardı. Aralarında bulunan AIDA adlı maskot diğerlerine nazaran oldukça büyüktü. Büyük olduğu kadar da gösterişliydi. Arabamın kaputu için bu maskotu düşünebilirim. 1967 model bir Ford Mustang GT Fastback'a sahip olsaydım fotoğraflarda gördüğünüz koç başını kaput süsü olarak kesinlikle kullanırdım. Bence hem Mustang hem de koç başı gücü, dayanıklılığı ve agresif bir yapıyı temsil ediyor. Bir Mustang'a da ancak böyle bir şey yakışırdı. :)
Spirit of Ecstasy is a hood ornament sculpture used on Rolls-Royce cars from the 1910s to the present. This speed goddess mascot is a female statue with arms outstretched back. This mascot is also known as the "Spirit of Speed". Frankly, such a beautiful mascot would be expected from a car brand like Rolls-Royce that attaches importance to speed, power and silence. The interesting thing is that Rolls-Royce has been using this mascot for years, improving it and making it even more beautiful. I have to say that this beautiful mascot is a meaningful product of the story that goes back to 1911. Charles Robinson Sykes, who designed the first Spirit of Ecstasy, was inspired by Eleanor Velasco Thornton. Unfortunately, Thornton died in a catastrophic shipwreck. However, Thornton achieved immortality thanks to the mascots produced later by Sykes and the Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornaments still used by Rolls-Royce today.
Spirit of Ecstasy, 1910'lardan günümüze kadar Rolls-Royce otomobillerinde kullanılan kaput süsleme heykelidir. Bu hız tanrıçası maskotu, kolları arkaya doğru uzanmış bir kadın heykelidir.
