요새 아부다비에 비가 내리고 하니, 막걸리에 해물 파전 생각이 가득합니다.
막걸리를 생각하니, 꼬막 무침도 먹고 싶고, 홍어 삼합도 먹고 싶네요.
It's rainy season in Abu Dhabi, and it reminds me of makgeolli(Korean rice wine), and haemulpajeon(seafood pancake).
Korean usually eats them since the sounds to cook a haemulpajeon is similar to it of rain.
Makgeolli also reminds me of kkomagmuchim(seasoned cockle), and hong-eosamhab.
11월~3월인 제철인 꼬막!
가까운데 사시면 이 달이 가기 전에,
멀리 사신다면 11월 순천만 갈대, 1월 여수 향일함 일출 보러 가셔서 들러보시는 것이 어떨까요?
From Nov. to March is the best season to eat cockle!
Beolgyo is near to Suncheonman Bay Wetland Reserve, famous for a reed field in autumn, and also Hyang-Il-Am, a Buddhist temple famous for a sunrise.
Why don't you visit there and eat the seasoned cockle at 수목회관?
어느 해 11월, 갑자기 떠났던 순천 여행.
어떤 음식이 유명한지 몰라서 순천에 계신 지인께 여쭤봤는데, 순천만의 짱뚱어탕과 벌교 꼬막을 추천해주셨습니다.
따로 음식점을 지정해주시진 않아서 검색을 하니, 한국인의 밥상 프로그램에 소개된 집이 있었습니다.
A day in Nov. some years ago, I traveled to Sunchoen without any plan.
I didn't know which food was famous for the region, I asked to my friend who lived in Suncheon, and she recommended me jjangddoongeotang(Mud skipper soup), and kkomagmuchim(seasoned cockle).
첫 날은 순천만 근처에서 자고, 다음 날 일찍 출발해서 아침 9시 반에 벌교 수목회관에 도착했습니다.
이른 시간인데도 이미 다른 테이블에는 등산 후 소주 한잔 하시는 분들이 계셨습니다.
'무슨 아침부터 술이야?' 라고 생각하며 15,000짜리 꼬막 정식만 주문했는데...
I stayed in Sunchoen for the first day, and took a bus to Beolgyo early morning, so I arrived at 수목회관 at 9:30 am.
It was quite early, but there were many people who were already drinking soju.
I couldn't understand how they drank it at that early morning. Thus I just ordered kkomagjeongsik(cockle set). However...
따끈한 참꼬막과 꼬막가위. 꼬막 가위로 꼬막 뒷 부분을 벌리는 도구입니다.
Steamed cockle, and a tool. The tool is quite useful to open it.
먼저 나온 정갈한 반찬들. 전라도 여행은 다양한 반찬 먹는 재미가 있죠.
Side dishes included in the cockle set. Traveling Jeollanam-do province(where Yeosu, Suncheon, Beolgyo are included) is famous for various side dishes.
노오란 꼬막 전에는 쫄깃한 꼬막이 3마리씩 들어있었습니다.
전 하나에 꼬막 1개를 상상했던 저에게 문화 충격.
Each yummy kkomagjeon(cockle pancake) included 3 chewy cockles. So surprising!
꼬막 무침을 처음 봤을 땐 조금 실망했습니다. 꼬막은 별로 안 보이고 순전히 야채만 보였거든요.
그런데 위의 야채를 덜어내니 아래에 꼬막이 잔뜩 있었습니다!!
When I firstly saw the seasoned cockle, I was disappointed a bit, because it was covered with vegetables.
However, when I took out of the veg, there were a lot of cockles!
저희 부부는 결국 서로 눈치를 보다가 서로의 그런 모습에 한바탕 웃고 막걸리를 주문했습니다.
I couldn't bear, so ordered Makgeolli in the morning. :p
역시 여행은 아무 때나 술을 마실 수 있는 기차 + 버스 여행이 최고입니다. :D
I love traveling with train & bus, so that I can drink at any time, any place. :D
