The weather in the Lake District can change dramatically in a matter of minutes as you will see from the following photographs. Being in these mountains for the first time was mindblowing and the need to be prepared for whatever the elements can throw at you is a must. We saw this sailboat out on the lake and thought it looked lovely in this amazing landscape.
Sailboat on Coniston Water

As I mentioned in my previous post. We decided to take a steamer around the lake to take in the views of the shoreline, trees and mountains. As you can see in the photo below it was a bright sunny day.

The changing colours of the autumn trees, mosses and bracken on the shoreline and hillsides in the photo below was just breathtaking.

Within minutes of setting off in the boat the storm clouds rolled in and covered the lake in this dark forboding mass of roiling cloud and it looked as if it was about to rain very heavily.

And as quickly as it came, it vanished and left behind this beautiful rainbow below that lasted for about 10 minutes.

The rain held off and we had a lovely cruise around the lake but it did make us think about how fast the weather can change in these parts and that we must prepare well for our trip up the mountians which would happen the next day. But that's another blog. 😁
