As a big fan of Shark Tank, it was a thrill to listen to Kevin O’Leary AKA Mr. Wonderful talking gold with Daniela Cambone of Kitco.
Did he notice her Mene ETERNITE 24 karat gold Medallion I wonder?

I have just a few issues with that Mr. Wonderful said:
“Gold was dead money for the last 2 years.”
Gold wasn’t dead money... it was just money.
If one were to look at gold in almost every single global currency besides USD, gold is “up” almost every year. The dollar has shown strength over the last few years but only relative to other fiat currencies.
Think of the USD in terms of the cleanest shirt in your dirty laundry. It still stinks.
“(Gold) is a 5% weighting in my portfolio.”
It’s great that Mr. Wonderful has exposure to gold. Generally I think this is a postive that he understands this is necessary to protect a portfolio.
“I buy physical gold.”
That’s awesome!! As a shark, perhaps Mr. Wonderful wants to own this 24 karat Mene Shark Tooth as part of his gold holdings:
“I buy GLD....”
Ugh.
He’s not talking about this GLD (Gold Loving Dog)
GLD is an exchange traded fund that is supposed to give your exposure to gold, but it’s not actually gold. Read more about that here:

Clearly it makes sense to do what this shark is doing, which is BOTH.
