Change is a broad topic to discuss. If we are talking about the change in physical appearance, of course, all of us are changing. Compare yourself today from the five-year-old kid that you used to be. There are lots of changes, isn’t it? You became taller, the muscles grew stronger, and the facial features are also changing each passing days. Our skin undergoes dramatic changes as we get older including heavy eyelids, dark circles, uneven complexion, and wrinkles. The hair and eyebrows are also starting to turn into gray, vision problems are occurring, experiencing sudden memory loss, and the body becomes weaker.
Surgical enhancements and beauty products can slower the signs of aging but it has no power to stop it. Physical changes are part of our lives whether we like it or not.
How about the views, opinions, and behavior aspects? Are we capable to change it? When I was in college, I used to wear heavy makeup. Most of the people around me keep on insisting that it’s not the appropriate look for my age. They are telling me to go for a natural look but I didn’t listen. I’m just literally hearing the words but I’m not absorbing it. Until one day, they stopped. I haven’t noticed that I’m starting to change my preference. Those well-defined eyebrows and dark eyeliners are also getting lighter. From red lipstick, I begin to choose the pink shades until I ended up with lip balm.
The funny thing is I’m unaware of my actions, I just find myself doing it. A thousand words and pieces of advice are useless if the person is not willing to change. Even if you put it in a tape recorder just to make the person realized his unpleasant habits, if he doesn’t want to change, he will not change. It is like giving your friend a mirror but refused to look at his face, the mirror became pointless. On the other hand, if he is ready to embrace a new perspective on life, his body will make a move before he can even realize it.
Every change will only be successful if the person has the willingness to do so. The process may take a couple of days, a few weeks, months and even years. It doesn’t matter if you are taking the road slowly, those little steps can still move you forward.
Another important thing about change is we need a strong motivation to have a full commitment. Let’s put it this way, if you are changing your writing styles and trying to be in different genres hoping to impress your fellow Steemians, what will you do if the things didn’t happen the way you want it to be? However, if you are changing your writing styles to improve yourself and to reach more souls that you can inspire, the fire will keep on burning even if the rain comes. A pretentious change doesn’t last long, you are just fooling yourself. It must be sincere, honest, and real.
Change is a constant thing in this world, so can people really change? Yes, only if we are open to adapt fresh experiences and new horizons.
