First Big Summer Festival 2018 - Eisteddfod Yr Urdd, Cymru - Wales

We sat under a lovely tree in the shade and enjoyed a bit of live music from the tents nearby.

Today was the final day of the Eisteddfod Yr Urdd Gobaith Cymru... A meet-up of all that's positive about and for young people in Wales, UK. During at least a term throughout the country there are competitions across schools, then counties and then regions and finally it happens during a week (half-term holiday).

Young people come from across Wales in dance, music, cooking, literary and art competitions one essential aim is to promote and keep the language alive. The whole event would not happen without the support from schools and teachers and, most importantly, generations of parents and grandparents who 'know' exactly what to do and where to go.

As an 'outsider' to all of this it has taken me years to understand. I appreciated it all right from the beginning though and the children went through it all at school.

Today @tinygalaxy needed to collect a third prize that she won nationally with an art piece that she wrote about some time ago here and here.

She drew, painted and embroidered each segment that makes up her piece. She was quite nervous about receiving her medal in such a public place. So many other young people got prizes in different categories though she shouldn't have been so nervous but proud.

I helped her take it all down at the end and we talked about how we could display it home - it could perhaps become a quilt.

This fountain was in one of the pavilions and the water did flow from it... It was great having a cup of latte and a muffin and planning what to see next...

It was a great day : great company, great music and art and great people - Diolch !
