Fantastic landscape at Birubi Beach, NSW, Australia

Today we wanted to go a bit farther and decided to head to Nelson Bay as we've never been there before. We had a walk around the marina and had some Chinese food for lunch then headed out to Birubi Beach near Anna Bay, NSW. My wife wanted to go somewhere in that area because she saw on the map that the beach was massive with lots and lots of sand. I chose Birubi Beach because it looks to be the closest access to the water. As we parked the car in the lower car park, we were surprised to see the immensity of this beach surrounded by amazing sand dunes and another surprise was the sighting of Camels!

Camels in Australia

A camel ride was organised by the Oakfield Ranch. As we talked to the organiser we discovered that Australia had the largest camel population in the world! What??!!! Yea... They've been introduced back in 1840 we've bee told! Who would have thought? I'm learning something every day!

My son wanted a photo with "Uncle Frankie" near those pyramid concrete blocks:

Frank and I went for a walk as my wife stayed with our son playing with the sand. We found few nice spot and I took a portrait for Frank, the clouds were very dramatic and made a fantastic backdrop. The iPhone 8 Plus' portrait mode made such a difference by adding that bokeh (background blur):

I then noticed an opening between two little dunes that revealed the beach with the big waves hitting the shore. It was a nice frame for a photo, it was a great opportunity to try a motion blur app called Slow Shutter Cam

That's when we noticed the herd of camels and their riders afar:

They then came out from the dunes and headed towards the water. What an amazing scene, Frank and I ran towards them before too many people gets between us and the camels.

As we got closer to the camels, we discovered their smell... hahaha

It's now time to head home. As we headed back towards the car, my wife asked if we could take some shot of the rays of sunlight shooting through the clouds. It was a challenge as it was very far. The dynamic range of the iPhone being not as good (by far) than that of a DSLR, I decided to use Cortex Cam app that takes a series of RAW images and merged them together to allow a better result.

All these photos were shot on an iPhone 8 Plus and edited using the Snapseed app
