This is a weekly, semi-automated post where I will show some statistics and graphs of the development category. It will also serve as a showcase for the staff picks and task requests that were made in the current week. If you have any suggestions or things you'd like to see in this post, then please let me know!

Tower: A REST API implementation on the top of Hivemind by @emrebeyler
Hive is a 'consensus interpretation' layer for the Steem blockchain, maintaining the state of social features such as post feeds, follows, and communities. Written in Python, it synchronizes an SQL database with chain state, providing developers with a more flexible/extensible alternative to the raw steemd API. Our very own @emrebeyler has written Tower, which is a solution to expose the Hivemind's database as REST API interface. You can have a look at the documentation at tower.emrebeyler.me, and the base URL for the API is: https://tower.emrebeyler.me/api/v1/.
Category summary

Score distribution in the development category

Number of contributions per weekday

On Saturday and Thursday there was relatively more activity compared to the rest of the week. I think it's always good to see that there are multiple days with high activity, but hopefully one day it will be even across the entire week! Friday had the least activity in the entire week, so if you are scared of competition then this is the day to contribute!
Average score, reward (STU) and time before review (hours) per week

Time before review is the number of hours between the creation of the post and the time it is reviewed by a moderator.
The average score of contributions has gone up from 70.7 to 77.0 this week, which is a good indication that the quality of contributions has also gone up! The average reward, just like the average score, has also gone up (from 41.4 STU to 48.7 STU), which is of course great for our contributors. Lastly, the number of hours it takes for us to get to a contribution and review it (on average) has gone up a bit from 17.4 hours to 20.0 hours.
Number of contributions reviewed per week

As you can see, the weekly number of reviews is down from 31 to 19. However, the number of contributions over the last two weeks (50) is up from the number of contributions in the two weeks prior to that (39). I am wondering if this has something to do with the increase of each category's rewards, which also means that fewer contributions are upvoted overall. Because of this contributors might be hesitant to even submit, since the chance of not receiving an upvote from Utopian is much higher than before. In my opinion it would be a good idea to decrease the rewards to where they were before, as, in my opinion, there should be a better balance between rewards for amazing (score of ~80+) contributions and contributions that are simply considered "good" (score of ~60+).
Contributors
Number of unique contributors per week

With the number of reviews going down this week it's unfortunately not that surprising to see the number of unique contributors go down slightly from 20 to 17 either. Although this has stayed pretty consistent over the last month, I was hoping to see an increase after Christmas and NYE. Unfortunately this is not the case, and I'm not sure exactly why the number of unique contributors is relatively low. Maybe it's also because of the aforementioned increase in competition for rewards, but I'm not sure. It would be great to hear from people about this either on this post or on Discord (which unfortunately isn't that active either)!

I can just copy and paste this every week I think: @helo is once again our most valuable moderator, reviewing more than the rest of us combined! Hopefully there will be an increase of contributions so the rest of us get to review stuff as well. ;)
Number of reviews per weekday

As you can see, Thursday was the day where we reviewed the most contributions in the development category. Wednesday was the day where we reviewed the least. I'm sorry if you submitted your contribution on that day and had to wait a while for your review, but at least now you know when we are the most active.

Task request(s)
Task Request: We Modified Our Task Request To Add Core Features & 'Communities' To Ulogs.org, Simplifying The 1.5 Task Drastically. + (500 Steem Is Completed In 7 days/550 Steem For 5 Days) by @surpassinggoogle
A less complicated version of the same task request posted last week (with a whopping 500 STEEM (or 550 STEEM) bounty)! The task itself consists of two separate tasks, but one has already been worked on by someone else; adjust the general UI structure of Ulogs and restructure the UI for existing Ulog communities!

FPL Plus task request #1 - implement login functionality using email and password! by @amosbastian
A task request submitted by myself. I need someone to implement a login function for my FPL Plus browser extension. There is an example written in Python showing how this can be done, but because I'm not sure how to do this in JavaScript, I am hoping someone else can do this for me; all the rewards generated by the task request will go to whoever who solves it!

Knacksteem [Task-Request] - Create a voting bot and a function to keep track of KNT distribution. by @knowledges
Our very own Knowledges is looking for someone who can create a voting bot and functionality to keep track of token distribution for his Knacksteem project. It has a 100 STEEM bounty for whoever completes the task!
