Fuchsite Mineral

Hey dear Hive friends, first of all I would like to welcome you all to my new post and wish you a positive start to the new week! Today I would like to bring a new mineral a little closer and hope you can learn something new.

You can see here a mineral that belongs to the class of silicates and is also known as Fuchsite and it is a representative of the mica group. If you want to learn more about the group of minerals, you will find my contribution here and the typical green color can be traced back to the content of chromium, which also makes the mineral interesting for the production of colors. The mineral was first named by the geologist Karl Emil Schafhäutl (1803 - 1890) and he probably named it in honor of Johann Nepomuk von Fuchs. In addition to the typical green color, one of the main characteristics of this metamorphic rock is also the intensely reflective silver effect and it is often of translucent transparency. The chromium content is between 1 - 5% high depending on the specimen and it is a rather frequent representative of the mica group. The most important places of discovery include India, Brazil, Russia, Australia or Sweden and historically, it has been anchored since ancient times and was previously an important mineral for the production of color pigments and in addition it was also used for the production of cosmetic products.
