ULOG 112 - Restaurant Review: de Pho in Chatswood

After last week taste of Mr Stone Pot, my friend and I decided we would trial another restaurant from the Lemon Grove food court. This week our choice was set on "de Pho" a Vietnamese & Chinese restaurant in Chatswood, NSW.

Typical of a food court, there are tables outside of the restaurant in a shared area. The great thing about this is that if you go with a group of friends, you don't have to all eat food from the same restaurant. Split out, go fetch your lunch and come back sit together.

The restaurant has its own dining area too and we got a table for two rather quickly.

The menu is written in Chinese and English, info panels are in Chinese, the waiters speak Chinese and not a single word of Vietnamese. That tells me that this is more of a Chinese restaurant that also prepare Vietnamese style dishes.

I ordered a "Vietnamese Style Combination with Boiled Rice" (in Vietnamese: "Cơm tấm đạc biệt") and my friend got a "Crispy Skin Chicken with Boiled Rice". While waiting for the order to arrive, I did some more shots with a little selfie 😌

My dish arrived few minutes later and I was a little bit disappointed to be honest. This is usually a special dish and need to look really good and it's missing some items in the combination such as a vermicelli omelette, more veggies and more meat variety

I mean, compare that photo above with this one below from Cớm Tấm Cali Services

Seriously, if you want a good "Cơm tấm đạc biệt", I recommend you go to "Bầu Trường" in Cabramatta! It does not as good as the one from Cớm Tấm Cali but it's decent and tastes amazing.

Talking about taste, the "Cơm tấm đạc biệt" from "de Pho" tastes average. I mean, if you don't know how a "Cơm tấm đạc biệt" taste like then you could say that it taste good. However, for me it was disappointing because I had some expectation.

My friend's crispy skin chicken presentation was also minimalist but to his (Chinese) opinion it does tastes good. So I guess being Chinese they are better at making Chinese dishes (makes sense 😊).

Although I didn't get what I was expecting, the lunch was still enjoyable as I decided to not be too picky and take it as a different dish. We were discussing of coming back again and try to see how their Vietnamese beef noodle soup (Phở) would taste like. Maybe not next week though...

After lunch, before heading back to the shuttle pick up point, we headed to an Asian grocery store to buy few stuffs. I bough a pack of Ginger tea bags and some Luo Han Guo tea.
