Tim Berners-Lee has been described as "the Father of the World Wide Web" after he created HTTP back in 1989, nearly 30 years later and in the light of events like Cambridge Analytica it became obvious that there was a problem with centralisation.

One of my favourite words has come to be the word "decentralisation" and is a rather new concept in the grand scale of things, Tim Berners-Lee has taken the initiative and seemingly put companies like Google and Facebook on notice.

Tim Berners-Lee has started a company called Inrupt which aims to create a virtual environment where users own their data in so called "PODS" (Personal Online Data Stores), this technology will be built on an open source platform called "Solid" which seems to bear some similarities to DAPPS built on blockchains.Source
