I used to own a folk guitar back during my days in France, I gave it to a friend before moving to the UK in 2006. My wife also owned a guitar when we lived in London but she also gave it away when we moved to Australia in 2012. I only took my Ukulele with us. It is a Mele Mahogany solid top concert size tuned with a lower G chord.
My wife is missing the guitar more and more but they are more expensive and we could not afford to buy a proper one. The thing is when you play for a while and love music, you become more picky about the guitar quality and a cheap one does not convey the same feelings.
Yesterday, during my night shift, I went online looking for some guitar as I sometimes do and spotted an ad for an Admira Avila Spanish classical guitar. I spent some time researching about this brand and model and found that the sound is actually pretty good. Brand new this guitar would have cost over A$800 but the seller had it for $425. I managed to bargained it down to $375. So it is a pretty decent guitar. It has a small body but the sound is not small
I was surprise how loud it sounded when I went to test it at the seller's place. The handling is good, it feels comfortable, it does not hurt the fingers as the strings height was perfect. The sound is bright with good bass. The Admira Avila has a very nice sustain which gives even more power to the already loud sound. For this price, I was more than happy with the guitar and so was my wife when I surprised her with the guitar waiting for her in the middle of the living room.
The Admira Avila has a Solid Spruce top which makes a lovely contrast with the Rosewood back and sides. The previous owner has kept it in mint condition. I could not notice any scratches, there must be tiny ones but you could not tell.
I tried the guitar for a little while, trying to remember the few songs I used to play when I was a student:
- Hotel California
- The House of The Rising Sun
- Stand by Me
- Redemption Song
- No Woman No Cry
- Dust in The Wind
That was a nice feeling, good memories came back to me.
