It's school holidays here in Australia. But school holidays for the kids does not mean holidays for one of the parents! So, today, my wife gets her one day holiday because I'm taking my son with me to work.
One great thing about working at SBS is the culture that we have. If you have a dog, you can occasionally bring it/them to the office as long as they are well trained, if you see what I mean. There is also an on-premises childcare with priority to the members of staff who live locally. You can also take your child with you and introduce them to office life.
Thiên-San has been coming to the office once or twice a year when he is on holidays. The first time he came with me, he was 4 years old I think. He would come with me to standups and meetings and was very well mannered and quiet. At that time he only stayed for half a day and mum would come around to have lunch with us and take him home. Since then, every time he's on holiday, he asks me if he could come with me.
We would usually take the train to work but yesterday mum forgot to set the alarm so woke him up too late so he wasn't ready on time. So I drove into the city. As it was school holidays, the traffic was faster. In Australia, there are school zones where cars have to drive at 40 km/h instead of 60 km/h during school start and school end times. But not this week and next. So even though we left late, we got there on time.
The office was decorated for the World Cup. We usually do some decoration for big events and also for Halloween. A couple of days ago, a colleague who heard that I would bring my son in, decided he'll do the same and bring his own boy in so both can play together. The other boy was 2 years younger than mine but they went on well together and were reading books, playing games, watching a movie on the iPad, laughing out loud (that was so cute) and running around. This was a great time actually because with the World Cup night shifts still going on, there are fewer people and we are not that busy during the day.
At some points, some colleagues even took their laptop and go sit next to the kids and while working. It was cool. Then when lunchtime came, I took Thiên-San in the company's shuttle bus to Chatswood and we went to a Chinese restaurant with some of my other colleagues.
Thiên-San ordered some fried rice and I shared it with him with some Chinese greens. After finishing our meal, we left the colleagues and went shopping for some beach sandals because he is going to visit some local rock pool at the beach tomorrow with a local group. But unfortunately, all the shops we went to didn't have any in stock because it is winter... So he will be using his old ones for now.
The afternoon went smoothly, with some more laughter and accidental shouting and yelling 🤣🤣that brings some smile and laugh to the colleagues.
Then it was time to head back home, I took my neighbor colleague with us and drove back home. Once home, I decided to take a picture of the fallen Camelias. I was thinking of taking some shots during day time but often forgot, so I'll use the flash for now.
For few days, the pink Camelias will color the ground before dying off and becoming plant food and the cycle continues.
