I created a budget for the recent roadtosteemfest contest by @anomadsoul and @blocktrades, and now I am changing and updating it for some recent events. A couple of things have happened since I made my original budget and now this is my best guess at costs.
The first thing that changes my budget was my recent adventure to get a new 90 day stay Tourist Visa in Malaysia. I first was denied entry to Singapore, and then had to make an unexpected trip to Bangkok seven days later. That was exciting!
The result of all this was:
I can leave later than I originally was going to depart for Bangkok.
I am on a 90 day cycle of tourist visas. This means I need to be out of Malaysia each time before my visa expires. With all the early August mess, I can now leave later for the STEEMFest trip. My original date was October 29 and now I do not need to go until Nov 6.
I will plan to leave on Monday Nov 4 and return on Tuesday Nov 12 due to the low cost flights on those days. This shortens my trip by a few days and so hostel costs and food reduce too.
I do not need to get a new passport:
According to Thai entry requirements, you need a full blank page to be allowed entry to the country. Amazingly after all this travel, I still have one! I will not go into how I managed this, but I will be able to use my current passport for the next trip. I will now have to get a new passport sometime between November and February 2020.
I will not need to move to Cambodia until Feb 9 2020 at least.
I originally thought I would need to move out of Malaysia permanently while on the roadtosteemfest. It turns out this will not be necessary due to all the travel changes listed above. I will at least get one more 90 day stay in Malaysia, and maybe even more than that! Miracles happen :)
I am taking the conference fee out of the budget entirely:
What??? Going to steemfest and not going to steemfest? Yes, it's true. If I win a ticket, or steem moons, or big fish start voting my posts, or the tooth fairy arrives, I will pay the fee.
No matter what, I WILL be in Bangkok at the time of STEEMFEST, due to my visa issues listed above.
But at this point on August 20 with my rent due on August 15 not yet paid, and the uncertainly of the fork, and the low STEEM price, I cannot justify thinking I will be able to pay the conference fee. It's going to be hard enough to pay the trip costs alone.
So what will I do at STEEMFest if I cannot get into the door? You will just have to wait and see, but I have ideas!
So what is the new budget?
As can you see below, I was budgeting 700 usd I do not have for STEEMFest. Now I am budgeting 198 usd I do not have. What a relief!
Original Budget
| Item | USD Cost |
|---|---|
| Bus/train in from Kuala Lumpur | 40.00 |
| Buses to Cambodia | 50.00 |
| Cambodian Visa | 30.00 |
| Hostel | 60.00 |
| Food and Expenses | 100.00 |
| Conference Fee | 250.00 |
| New Passport | 250.00 |
| Total | 700.00 |
Revised Budget
| Item | USD Cost |
|---|---|
| Airfare KL/BK/KL | 68.00 |
| Hostel | 50.00 |
| Food and Expenses | 80.00 |
| Total | 198.00 |
NOT INCLUDED:
Thailand requires you to have the equivalent of 10000 thb (300 usd) to enter the country for a 30 stay. They do not often ask to see it. Will I live dangerously for this trip? Sigh...
