Blog of the Week Winners - 2 November 2021

For this edition of the Silver Bloggers Blog of the Week, the number of entries was down.

But, and...quality versus quantity

The quality of the posts was superior to what it has been for a while and all made for excellent reads. That said, for the first time - also in a while - the team, consisting for the moment, of Silver-Blonde Lizzie, Sir Stirling Silver and Silver Flower, were unanimous as to the winners. As we mentioned in the announcement post, contributions not added to our Discord channel were not considered. As the community is approaching 550 subscriber mark, we do need to stick to our own rules!

In addition to the two ineligible contributions from Silver-Blonde Lizzie - about food, of course and Silver Flower, who gave the topic her usual treatment, six entries met all the criteria.

A reminder

The criteria for entering the Silver Bloggers Blog of the Week initiative:

1. Posts must be in English and obviously centre on the week’s topic.
2. Prose must be a minimum of 350 words. If it’s a photo or graphic essay, the photos must be your original work and preferably with some sort of back-story to the images.
3. The blog must be posted in/from our community
4. The account must be a subscribed Silver Blogger
5. Use #BoW - blog of the week - as your first tag. And follow the tag so we can all easily find, upvote and comment on other entries.
6. Share the link to your entry in the comments of the announcement post and in our Discord channel which is open to subscribed members only.

We will continue to strictly apply these rules for the next and following editions.

Halloween Memories

Halloween doesn't "do" it for everyone. We had a suspicion that this might be the case because all of the panel members are from a country (South Africa), and where it was certainly not a thing. In our day. It is now. With that, to the winning posts.

Special mention

We all loved Jackie O'Silver's fun Halloween soup gatherings. She shares how it was a neighbourhood, fun, thing, and which took virtually the entire day. But that's not all, she concludes with a more recent memory that includes Hive pals.

Runners up

Different though they both were, we had difficulty choosing between the runners up. First up, we welcome newcomer @coquicoin whose post is filled with happy memories. Especially of the skeleton with whom the family had to live - for three days...

Our Silver Dish and I share similar feelings of horror at being forced to dress up. Although she's a self-confessed Halloween Grinch, she does have a favourite Halloween memory. In the guise of a Grumpy Granny.

The winner - reluctant "convert"

This week, Silver C had us sitting on the edge of our seats.

We were gripped, not by her not-so-happy childhood memories, but of her very grown up and real life experiences of Halloween.
