Amidst the Chaos that has brought only darkness and despair.
A small flicker of light may carry all the world's hope.
The Riftwatchers are coming
And the Splinterlands will never be the same. - Riftwatcher's Trailer
Introduction
Hi! @Saydie here, playing Splinterlands everyday.
Ritwatchers is a mini set for the Chaos Legion much like how Dice is for the Untamed and for quite a while now, Riftwatchers have been available for ranked battles and has brought big changes on the game. Not only that most of the monsters are mana- hungry as lots of them cost high mana, some even exceeding 10, they also introduced a new ability called Fury which doubles the damage for monsters that have the Taunt ability. Since I'm done making a review for all the epic summoners as well as for the monsters of the Fire element, I will proceed on the Water element.

Coastal Nymph

| Rarity | Common |
| Card Type | Range |
| Abilities | Affliction Scattershot |
| RF Burn Val. | 5 DEC |

Lore
Coastal nymphs inhabit the shores of Lemell’s islands. They are an agitated and ill-tempered splinter of nymphs, quick to anger and rise to a fight. They travel across the archipelagos on great rafts of driftwood, scavenging from the seabed and selling their finds to local villages.
One day, a group of coastal nymphs discovered the flooded remains of an old laboratory. Within it, they found remnants of lost tech. Some of it was even salvageable. One such item was a harpoon crafted from the elemental mana of water. While deadly, it was also imprecise, often missing its target and hitting something else entirely. Whatever it hit, however, would fall foul of the harpoon’s magic, which caused an affliction with a lasting effect.
When the Riftwatchers arrived on Lemell and offered a place in their ranks, these coastal nymphs eagerly joined, happy for the opportunity to use the Chaos Legion as target practice. Continue Reading...

Use Case
Coastal Nymph is a range monster of Water element. It has the Scattershot ability at level 1 which causes it's attack to hit random monster every time it attacks and Affliction at level 6 which inflicts a negative status effect to the opponent that prevents it from being healed. Due to it's high mana cost, it is more suitable for high mana battles and it ignores Taunt which is an ability that forces all attacks to be directed to it so if it also happens to be under the Explosive Weaponry rule set where all the monster have the Blast ability, it's ability to attack randomly will allow it to spread the damage across the opponent line- up.

| Element | Water |
| Rarity | Common |
| Card Type | Melee |
| Abilities | Void Armor Enrage |
| RF Burn Val. | 5 DEC |
| GF Burn Val. | 125 DEC |
Lore
Following the Chaos Legion’s invasion, Lemell was a broken, desolate, and mana-less world. Of the few survivors, a great sadness filled them… and a greater anger. When the Riftwatchers arrived and promised an opportunity to strike back, many of these refugees answered the call. They combine their attunement with water mana with the art of runemancy to support their allies and seek vengeance against the Chaos Legion. Continue Reading...

Use Case
Lemell Refugee is a melee monster of the Water element. It has the Void Armor ability at level 1 which prevents magic attack from directly damaging the health without depleting the armor fist and at level 6, it will have the Enrage where once this monster gets damage on it's health, its speed and melee attack will increased by x1.5. It can be a good alternative to Diemonshark under the Odd Ones Out rule set where only odd mana cards can be used or a substitute to Legionnaire Alvar under Lost Legendaries rule set where no legendary cards can be used or at Taking Sides rule set where all Neutral monsters are unusable when fighting against magic opponents.

Sea Stalker

| Edition | Riftwatchers |
|---|---|
| Mana Cost | 8 |
| Element | Water |
| Rarity | Rare |
| Card Type | Range |
| Abilities | Snipe Comouflage Cleanse Amplify |
| RF Burn Val. | 20 DEC |
| GF Burn Val. | 500 DEC |
Lore
Cecaelia are a race of humanoid-octopuses that live in the coastal shallows of Preatoria. They are reclusive and mostly stay away from others, often making their homes in shipwrecks and submerged caves.
Of the cecaelia, sea stalkers are hunters, and their bows are just as deadly beneath the water as they are out of it. Sea stalkers can change their color to blend in with their surroundings, creating an effective camouflage against predators and prey alike. When hunting, they will often remain hidden until their quarry passes by. Then, they fire a deadly shot; their aim is so accurate it’s said a sea stalker can hit a mackerel among a shoal of tuna.
Many fishermen have tried to harpoon a cecaelia but to no avail. Their great spears always seem to miss. No one knows why. Maybe it’s the subtle refraction of light through the water; maybe the currents sway to the will of the cecaelia; or maybe they should just be left well enough alone. Continue Reading...

Use Case
Seas Stalker is a range monster of the Water element. It has the Snipe and Comouflage ability at level 1 that allows it to attack the closest non-melee monster that is not in the first position while also being unable to be directly target by the opponent. At level 5, it gains the Cleanse ability which removes all negative effects on the first position monster and at level 8, it gains the Amplify ability which increases the damage of Magic Reflect, Return Fire and Thorns by 1. It's capability to target non- melee monsters with 4 damage that can go up to 5 starting at level 4 while being hidden from direct attacks allows it to deall significan damage to the opponent but it gets more interesting as a support when playing on Noxious Fumes rule set or fighting against monsters like Doctor Blight or summoners like Waka Spiritblade that gives Poison damage.

Water Caller

| Edition | Riftwatchers |
|---|---|
| Mana Cost | 5 |
| Element | Water |
| Rarity | Common |
| Card Type | Magic |
| Abilities | Stun Reflection Shield |
| RF Burn Val. | 20 DEC |
| GF Burn Val. | 500 DEC |
Lore
Gwen Stormsong was born and raised on the aquatic realm of Lemell. From an early age, she had a strong connection to the elemental mana of water. To foster her abilities, her parents sent her to train with the druids of Lemell. Gwen spent her formative years on the water, learning how to channel its power. While some druids specialized in offensive spells, Gwen preferred to use her powers to help others.
When a great hole ripped the sky open and tentacles slithered forth, chaos swept across the land, decimating cities and the landscape. And after the dark god drained the realm of mana and the Chaos Legion moved on to its next conquest, Lemell was a very different place. Nearly all life had been wiped out. The landscape was destroyed. Everything Gwen loved was gone.
She traveled by boat across the island and archipelagos, searching for survivors. She joined a handful of refugees who had survived, hidden in the caves of a craggy atoll. Gwen was devastated and spent many days in a deep depression, barely eating and hardly sleeping.
When an airship landed on the atoll, she feared the Chaos Legion had returned. These visitors, however, called themselves the Riftwatchers. They were people like her who had survived the Legion’s destruction. They were taking the fight to the Chaos Legion and asked for her and her people’s help.
Gwen agreed, and she joined the ranks of the Riftwatchers to avenge her home.Continue Reading...

| Rarity | Legendary |
| Card Type | Magic |
| Abilities | Flying Life Leach Fury |
| RF Burn Val. | 500 DEC |
| GF Burn Val. | 12500 DEC |
Lore
As a siren, Azura Kye loves spending her days in the sky and her nights deep beneath the waves. She is a third-generation Riftwatcher who grew up listening to her grandparent’s stories of the Chaos Legion’s invasion of their homeworld, Lemell.
Azura learned to fight at a young age and grew to become a renowned sorceress. She also has an incredible aptitude for runemancy and has developed a variety of mana-infused weapons and gadgets for her allies to employ in their fight against the Chaos Legion. On the battlefield, she has proven herself repeatedly, facing off against the Legion’s scouts on various realms and harassing their forces with clandestine, insurgent tactics. Once, she even single-handedly brought down a kraken.
Subsequently, she rose quickly through the ranks of the Riftwatchers. Time passed, and so too did the old guard. Azura was an obvious choice to replace them. Honored to follow in the footsteps of her predecessors, she now wears the mantle of Runemancer. She is a natural leader and a champion of the people, dedicating her life to stopping the Chaos Legion threat. Continue Reading...

At level1, it has the Flying which gives it 25% chance of evading melee and range attacks while the Life Leech ability increases the health of this monster in proportion to the damage that it dealt. Final Thoughts
With Riftwatchers now added to the ranked battles, it added more varieties and combinations on the strategies that we can use specially on High- Mana battles and one thing I notice is that even at their base level, most of this monster are competitive enough for higher leagues.
The water team has a very balanced team in terms that it has a splinter available for every attack types. Except from Aquatus, all the cards for water Riftwatchers are females.
The monsters that I really like on this group was Water Caller and Runemancer Kye because I really like using magic since their attacks can pass through most armors. Water Caller provide the Reflection Shield when I can't use Tide Biter or Venator Kinjo while Runemancer Kye can be used when I can't use Phantom of the Abyss on Odd Ones Out rule set.
